S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Christy Zurbuchen for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
When I have the opportunity to exhort or encourage others in their walk with the Lord I feel alive.

#2 Gift, Teaching (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Up until recently, where I have wrestled with feelings of failure and inadequacy, teaching has been a life long passion and pleasure.

#3 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (65%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This is the gift that has been most often recognized and affirmed by others. In the past when I have taken these tests it has been my number one gift. I am not exactly sure how these terms are being used here. How I see it play out in my own life is my passion for the care and shepherding of the soul. My deep desire to see others walking in true intimacy with the Lord.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I find pure joy in encouraging others into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Especially, when the opportunities come through simply living life on life together. Where transparency and trust has been built. One of the ways I have been able to do this is through opportunities to open our home in hospitality.

2. I love spending time with Jesus… listening, reading His Word, worshiping, interceding for others as He brings them to mind, growing in understanding of His love, learning to surrender everything to Him, giving thanks, seeing His faithful provision and guidance, learning what it means to abide and walk in His “easy yoke and light burden”….

3. I love getting to know people on a deep level. Learning about how God made them what makes them tick, personality types, past life experiences, ext. is very fascinating to me. ( I am not exactly sure how it brings joy and fulfillment in my life but somehow I just love growing in deeper understanding of others) and sometimes all that information comes together in an idea/vision and I can see how God may be using all of it to prepare that person for a specific ministry and when I share that idea with the other person and they too are excited and see how it could all fit together! Well that is truly thrilling!

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I particularly enjoy work with people from other cultures but in general I love people of all ages and types.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I am willing and happy to serve wherever there is need, and if that happens to be in an area I am not particularly gifted in I trust His power to be made perfect in my weakness. ( with the exception of anything musical that would just be a disaster, unless we are going for a joyful noise:)

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in a Christian home where my parents not only shared with us the gospel but lived it out in our home life. At a very young age I became aware of my sin and need for Jesus. As I grew up I grew in my understanding of the gospel and my roots have gone down much deeper.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

We joined Pioneers Canada in 2005 and have been with them until present. Most of that time has been serving overseas in China. ( Evangelism, discipleship, hospitality, team leaders, training, mentoring)

Camp Counselor, Sunday school teacher, some speaking,

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Living and working in China for almost ten years

Growing up as a Missionary kid from age 8 to 18 I spent 6 months in Canada and then 6 months in central Mexico.

A few years ago my husband and I went through a two year leadership training process with Pioneers. The whole process coupled with events in our lives at the time was and continues to be transformational in my life.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

As well as being positive the back and forth between Canada and Mexico also had negative aspects eg. never feeling like I truly belonged anywhere, finding it hard to have deep long term friendships continually feeling “replaced” while I was gone. etc. The positive is that I know the feeling of being a ” new comer” and that has given me compassion and motivation to reach out and include new people.

Several years ago I experienced an attack of Transverse myelitis that sent me to a hospital in Hong Kong. That incident and the following years of uncertainty and at one point a very likely MS diagnosis has had a huge impact on my life, my walk with Jesus and my compassion and understanding of others with chronic illness.

Being a parent and home schooling our children has been one of my greatest delights as well as one of my greatest heart aches. I truly loved home schooling our children and put much heart, soul, time and energy into consistently teaching them. So when we had our second oldest tested and were told that he has a learning disability and needs immediate professional help I was deeply grieved and also plagued with feelings of failure as a teacher and parent. There are many ways that God is growing me through this challenge… compassion, faith, perseverance, surrender, humility…
