S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Carla van Zyl for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Serving (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I usually am not the main leader in a group of people but I am completely comfortable taking a side, supportive role in any setting. I also see it as a way to show my faith, by serving others.

#2 Gift, Evangelism (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
As much as I struggle with evangelism, and am uncomfortable sharing the gospel, it is something that is greatly intertwined with my life as I am often in a non-Christian setting. However, I have seen and embraced opportunities to share my faith and experiences and I feel it is something God is guiding me in.

#3 Gift, Teaching (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am no teacher, but I am competent in sharing and relating my experiences with others. In a way, I feel this is teaching method in it’s own, and one I enjoy especially with those younger than me who I am comfortable taking a ‘leadership’ role with.

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love to do morning devotions with a cup of coffee. It is something that brings great joy and fulfillment, gives me the daily bread, can be made into a routine, and overall sets the stage for my day.

2. Another thing I love is judo. I do struggle sometimes with the mental aspect of it, and the spiritual struggles on and off the mat, but it is something that gives me great joy. I try not to place my worth or fulfillment in it, but I do love judo very much.

3. I love to spend time with my family, at my home, or doing things in nature like cutting wood or working. It is something that we grew up doing and it brings me lots of fulfillment. Usually after we share a meal or barbeque together outside which brings me great joy.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I usually bond better with people younger than me, 2-5 years, and female. It might be because I know what they are experiencing at that age, and I feel I am proficient at listening where needed, and giving advice where needed.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I have always felt a great deal or conviction concerning homelessness, even though I do not exactly know what action to take. Another thing the concerns/excites me is I am going to be living with people who do not know Christ, and I want to be a vessel to share the gospel with them.

[A]bilities

My current vocation:

I do not really have a vocation at the moment, other than to gain financial stability to be able to travel and experience God’s creation everywhere. I always wanted to be a veterinarian however, and being in nature or working with animals is important to me.

Other jobs I have experience in:

I have always done manual labor jobs working on a farm, but I did do an office job for one summer, as well as helping at ness lake bible camp. I do a lot of judo coaching currently as well.

Special talents/skills that I have:

I am very aware of my surroundings, when to say things and when not to, and social awareness. However, this has become a bit of a hindrance to my evangelism life. I also am pretty mentally strong, able to push myself past my limits, and setting goals for myself.

I have taught a class or seminar on:

I have never taught a class or seminar, other than teaching judo to younger children.

I feel my most valuable personal asset is:

My most valuable personal asset in life is probably always seeking to better myself physically, mentally, and spiritually. I will not be content letting myself go and want to be who God created me to be, while also being content with what I have.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was born into a Christian household but started taking my faith seriously around grade 9. Since then, it has been a spiritual journey with lots of ups and down and my relationship with God has grown.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I used to serve in nursery a lot, but have not been in town enough to participate consistently. However, when I move I hope to participate in Bible studies or youth groups.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

When I won bronze in a big tournament, it was a very spiritual experience because I placed so much trust and hope in the Lord as I was greatly in a non-Christian environment.

During my grad trip, I was able to participate/lead a small bible study in the mornings, and showed me how community and leadership are very important.

I worked at ness lake this summer and I had a positive experience learning how to talk to children concerning the gospel, as well as worshipping the Lord through campfire guitar songs, which is my favorite type of worship.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I went through a lot of spiritual struggle especially when going on judo trips with non-Christians. This has given me compassion to others going through this experience, and has shaped me today.

Another negative experience I have had is relationship struggles that truly have me doubting who I am as a Christian. This has happened around 3 times where I lose sight of my identity, but it has shaped me in certain ways.

One time I broke my ankle and made some bad personal choices concerning a tournament, and it definitely shaped me to be more wise and understanding today, but was a very negative experience.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would serve children with little opportunity in third world countries.

4. I would help out in my community in every single aspect and be very involved in school and church events, especially as a parent.

5. I would play guitar in a church setting to worship and sing to the Lord.
