S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you for taking the SHAPE Assessment. #1 Gift, Giving (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This is a value that was instilled in me as a child and has been a priority in my life since. Giving, in the sense of serving others in need, of serving in the church, monetary giving, and in the world.

#2 Gift, Evangelism (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have been called to tell others about Jesus, especially children. I sense that I am best with this age group. However, I am not shy about sharing my faith with other populations.

#3 Gift, Administration (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’ve always loved organizing, doing clerical tasks, researching. There is a certain challenge about it that invigorates me.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. 1. Music is a part of my life every day – Star 88 accompanies me from morning to night. I LOVE to sing praises whether by voice or sign around the house, in the car, and of course, at our church services!

2. Family and friends are important to me. I have a rich spiritual heritage from my grandparents. I remember as a little girl staying in their home seeing them kneel at their chairs before breakfast and having morning prayer. Throughout the years, I have been the recipient of the prayers of family, friends, and church family. Spending time with family and friends brings me pleasure!

3. I love to enjoy God’s creation – whether it’s watching a sunrise/sunset, a meteor shower, digging in the dirt and caring for plants and flowers, hiking in the mountains or a forest trail, kayaking the lake, etc.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

That’s a tough one. I think I’m good with all ages, depending at times upon the situation.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Excite – Sunday worship, music ministries, food bank, CIH and other outreach
– see growth in numbers – hopeful for same in spiritual growth and outreach (ministries)
Concern – don’t know much about outreach to our own college students
– are we keeping up with “visitors” in welcoming them, greeting them, etc?
– important to keep Huntertown UMC in tandem with Lifehouse

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My Grandpa and Grandma Judy – they lived their beliefs and I had that modeled for me. Funny, I can’t really remember them speaking to me specifically about that as I reflect now.

Church camp experiences and Youth for Christ.

Marriage Encounter

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I grew up in a Pollyanna world. Not much in my life until college. My sorority would not pledge a girl from Hawaii – made no sense to me!

Very serious illnesses – our son at age 3, me as a young mother –
(became a positive) with response from church family

Hurtful words spoken to me that changed a relationship with a loved one –
still working on this one
