S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Kathy Abrams for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Mercy Showing (56%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have great compassion for others and a desire to meet needs both physically and spiritually.

#2 Gift, Serving (56%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I like helping in the church whether it be behind the scenes or serving in some more “performer” role, as the survey puts it. I love people and love making them smile and feel good about themselves. I can meet people easily.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (53%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I don’t know if I would call it evangelism as much as teaching that I can do. I used to give concerts and speaking in churches and women’s groups/retreats. I loved it and always made sure I presented the gospel message as part of my testimony or teaching.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love to sing! I believe God gave me the talent that I can do only because of Him. I love being in a choir, singing on praise teams, and doing solos. I taught a junior choir at the church for several years when my kids were in school.

2. I love children! I look forward to my monthly” baby fix” when I get to do nursery. I love working with kids and encouraging parents of all ages of kids.

3. I love Bible studies! I enjoy looking at God’s Word together, teaching or sharing Bible truths by drawing off of life experiences and the lessons learned.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Children 0-6th grade
Moms of any age, women, couples
Those going through trials, loss and grief, needing encouragement, or a helping hand

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I know I’m old fashioned, but I still wish we could have a choir, not worrying about how many members there are, but concentrating on those having a passion for singing. I like that Pastor Dan is having several different people on praise teams and I wouldn’t mind doing it sometimes (if this old lady hasn’t turned into a warbler!). I love how the young couples in our church are supporting each other. Calling is always a perpetual issue in any church. i feel it’s something all the staff should participate in, and we need to develop a more organized group of lay people who call on newcomers and those with needs. I love the enthusiasm in our church, the breath of fresh air that has permeated it since our new staff has come. People sense hope here and it draws them to come back. All the staff do well in preaching! The staff families are great examples also in supporting/ helping our pastors. Love each one of them!

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was just a child of 5 years old when my mother, who read Bible stories to us each night, explained about sin and the need for forgiveness. Then she talked about Christ taking my punishment for my sin and giving eternal life. I asked Him into my heart and understood as best a 5 year old can. I received much nurturing in my faith through the years, mostly from her, and also at church, Sunday school and Bible camps. I committed my whole life to the Lord as a freshman at Moody Bible Instiitute.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Most of it has been in our church in recent years. I used to teach Bible school and Child Evangelism in the Hedrick area.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Bible camp was a place were I did much spiritual growing, first as a camper, then counselor and even camp director

Attending Moody Bible Institute. At Moody we had many practical Christian work assignments in the Chicago area that opened my eyes to the many needs of hurting people. It gave me a heart for helping others.

Bible studies that stretched me and my understanding of the Word. They gave me a strong faith in our amazing God.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Being sick for most of my adult life has given me a compassion for others who are going through similar circumstances. Also God showed me how to live above my circumstances and choose joy each day.

It was a very difficult time when my son Andy got cancer, and it was only by the grace of God that he survived. It’s so difficult to watch your child suffered and be near death for 3 weeks. It changed our whole family. Would I wish my child to have to go through cancer? Certainly not, but God has used his testimony around the world in witnessing to others. We have to believe that God would never allow anything to happen to us that isn’t our of great love for us.

When I was 21 I was raped. It was definitely the most difficult experience of my life and effected who I am today. I went through a struggle spiritually of why God had allowed it to happen when I had done nothing wrong. It was a crisis of trusting God that took a long time for me to understand, and finally give my tiny mustard seed for faith back to God. But He has used this experience many times in helping other girls and women. I share it when I feel God’s leading and He has never let it return void.
