S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Amanda Ryder for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Administration (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
As a quality engineer (process engineer) I have been able to develop skills for designing effective processes as well as working to modify existing processes to make them more effective/efficient. I have had lot of practice leading teams and also delegating parts of projects for the greater good of the whole. My personality is analytical by nature (My business is pharmaceutical manufacturing and testing quality) but I also am calm and tend to make well though out decisions (DiSC profile of “Si” with strong contention toward “C”).

#2 Gift, Serving (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I gain energy from helping. I really don’t care what the job is as long as it fits my personal (and family) mantra of “I’m 3rd” meaning God first, others second and self third. I tend to couple service and teaching as I strongly believe that kiddos SHOULD be performing frequent acts of service to others. This teaches them a lot by nature, but I also think that it helps to start shaping their heart early, hopefully helping to be less “me” centered as they gain maturity.

#3 Gift, Teaching (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love to help people come to a greater understanding of themselves. My goal is always to help others become the best “them” they can be. I am very comfortable teaching kids (all ages) and was extremely involved with the children’s ministry at our previous church (10+ years in this ministry).

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love to help orchestrate activities that give families the opportunity to grow together. That may be couples or kiddos and parents.

2. I love to spend time outdoors exploring what God has created and sharing it with people who “don’t like to get dirty” πŸ™‚

3. Music gives me joy! I love sharing it with others and helping them to grow in their love for it as well.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I tend to gravitate to kiddos (kinder to middle school age). Not opposed to other ages or area simply have more experience with the kiddos.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

What Excites me:
Family oriented service πŸ™‚
Concerns I have:
Excessive international missions to the detriment of our local community/state. To clarify, having a major push to build structures for a community in a developing area is great, but not when they can’t support or maintain (what I call an in-and -out). I believe that this can quickly become poorly placed good intentions. IF you support the community long term, build a relationship, then that is different, and not what I am speaking to.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Parents disagreed about denomination and we didn’t attend church. Felt like something was missing and began to go to church with friends. Found that this was my missing piece and began a search of many denominations/religions to see what was right for me. Christ won.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Children’s Ministry as a leader/teacher : 10+ years Woods Chapel UMC Lees Summit

Music ministry Genesis UMC Cary NC 2001-2006

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Being a parent has had the biggest impact on who I am. My kiddos have taught me to look at myself from how others see me and make sure that my actions are true to my beliefs.

Meeting and marrying my husband. We moved across the US where we had no support network (social or otherwise). It taught me how to ask others for help. Humility was not something I had ever truly experienced. It also taught me to have indomitable spirit.

Growing up in the country where there is always work to be done taught me a very strong work ethic which I think has been a huge blessing to me.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I have a mother who is clinically depressed and a sister with Anxiety. It allowed me to learn self reliance and patience (calm nature). I think needing to take care of myself (up, fed and to school with no parent support starting in 1st grade) also taught me to help others when you see they need it. No matter what.
I think you have to be a village and help each other in life. Kiddos, house repair whatever. We aren’t in this life alone and we need to be there for each other.

In high school I had a ton of friends and was pretty popular. Junior year they all walked away because a boy liked me that someone else int he group liked. it was horrible and traumatic, but at the same time I think it taught me the meaning a true friendship. I came away with 4 really close friends who taught me a lot about how to be a good friend, and that you have to be willing to stick up for others when it is the right thing to do no matter your cost.

I was involved in an abusive relationship in college. It was bad, but it taught me that I am stronger than I think and that no matter the reason you should ALWAYS treat others with respect.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Take my kids to serve on a domestic mission every year

4. To be able to make marriage enrichment a priority

5. Be a part of the solution to bring back a focus on the greater good of society and leave the “me” out of it.
