S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you April Scott for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Mercy Showing (96%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Growing up in different poverty/low class neighborhoods, I saw many people resort to illegal actions to get ahead or get what they want. I never excused their actions but I did feel bad for them having to resort to such actions due to a need that they had that they couldn’t meet themselves. Since I was little, I’ve always shown mercy to those that have even wronged me, because I want them to be restored and not have to resort to their bad actions.

#2 Gift, Giving (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
My mother was always a giver of time and resources and she taught me to be as well. It genuinely makes me happy to meet a need of others or to give of my time, money, or other resources I have. I feel like God created me to give, and I enjoy walking in that.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
My top love language is words of affirmation, and that’s also how I show love to others. I feel I honed this skill in the military where many of my colleagues were away from home, or in some situation that they didn’t want to be in. Encouragement comes naturally to me and I think it’s needed throughout the day in everyone’s life.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Helping others

2. Teaching

3. Making others feel loved

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I love to work with people who others have ignored or think are not valuable. My last position was working with children who were mostly on Medicaid and didn’t have the knowledge or resources that middle class America has. That was by far my favorite job because I got to reach a population that is usually ignored, and teach them how to take care of themselves and make good decisions.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I love Cornerstone and my husband and children feel very at home here, as do I . But if I could pinpoint one need for the church, it would be diversity. While race shouldn’t matter (we’re all made in the image of God), sadly it does. With my being a minority, I can see how attending a church that has very few people who look like you can be nerve wracking. I would like to see Cornerstone actively work to diversity it’s staff and members. I think it’s important to get others’ mind sets from backgrounds that don’t align with yours.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up with a single mother who took me to church intermittently, but never seemed to practice what she preached. She was married 6 times and didn’t seem to rely on God for her direction. As a teenager and into my early 20’s I considered myself a Christian but was not living the Christian walk. After a severe breakup at the age of 21, I began searching for someone or something to fill the void I had. I felt God calling me and knew he had been calling me for a long time but I was finally not distracted by others and allowed myself to really follow Him. Since that time, of course I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve never turned away. I couldn’t imagine a life of refusing Him after experiencing what he’s brought me through.
