S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Wendi Upjohn-Barber for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I like to be a foundational help to others, to be a backbone to help them thrive. I have a heart in support and leadership either in an individual or in small group. It excites me to see people succeed and thrive.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love to gift when I have the means. It’s not always financial but can be of time, taking a meal, or a show of support. To me, gifting is a form of serving.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I believe it’s easy to get lost in this world or be forgotten. Everyone needs to feel love and support and if I can be that person to lend a gesture whether large or small, of support I will gratefully do so. I believe in standing up for those who cannot, or show grace and kindness to encourage the lost.
[H]eart
1. I love to bring joy in other’s lives. Sometimes that means helping out, gifting, words on encouragement. I believe that sometimes the best form of evangelism is by modeling, and being an encourager and lead directly to Jesus Christ.
2. Sometimes doing busywork and seeing the end result can be so fulfilling. Part of the reason I enjoy graphic design.
3. I enjoy seeing things from a different perspective. I believe in showing others you can help them value aspects of life that may not easily be seen. I believe in the goodness of God is around in sometimes the smallest or most quiet of things.
I do work best with those who are receptive. From children, to adults open to support. To those really struggling and angry, I may not have the skills to bring them back from the brink, but I do have the heart to assist those who do. I can, however, work with a variety of people, including those many find difficult. I believe we all have good within us and I always try to seek that common ground to find camaraderie and bring any communication gaps.
I happy to be support, work in missions and work with kiddos.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.
Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable
Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.
Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline
[E]xperience
I’ve lived in a Christian home but the decision became real for me as a college student, and I made the commitment to Christ at a Billy Graham crusade.
Southlake Church, West Linn, Oregon, children’s ministry – primarily infants off and on from 2012 to 2017. Also some volunteer for various needs throughout my membership from 2010 to present
From 1994 to 1996 I worked in various volunteer positions at Union Gospel Mission Boys and Girls club/Seattle, Chicken Soup Brigade/ Seattle, Oregon Food Bank
Work with a neighbor to make meals for homeless – 2020 to current
As a student at George Fox University, I was part of a Spring Serve program working with the homeless and hungry. It made a huge impact on me in serving others. I am working to create this passion in my teens with volunteer work (we do some) and hopefully future mission trips (2020 trips were cancelled).
Becoming a mother has helped me find the passion for kids and being a positive role model. I believe strongly in the concept of “it takes a village” and want to be a key person to others’ lives as a part of their “village” (and hope to find those for my own kids)
My family upbringing and my own parents taught me to seek truth, respect, and to have a moral foundation. I believe the values they instilled in me have a large part in who I am today.
I was previously married to someone who suffers from bipolar disorder. I did all I could to learn more about mental illnesses and how to be a support to him. I became an advocate for him. Although our marriage ended, what I learned was a little about those afflicted with mental illness and gained more of an understanding beyond the stigma.
I have worked with people who are difficult, and I believe it has gained me perspective as I worked to learn more about them and find a common ground that would bridge any gap.
One of my children is a very strong-willed child, and is very difficult to teach to grow and move forward in his life. I am still learning how to prepare him for this world, but am slowing gaining understanding in how I can be a role model and release him in ways that will help him learn quickly before the currency gets too large (he is 18 and a senior in high school)
Wrapping It Up
The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?
1. My Relationship with GOD
2. My Relationship with Others
- Putting Your Spouse First
- Your Kids Second
- Everyone Else After those
3. Mission trip. My fiancé and I both prioritize this in our lives
4. Be a role model for a child that is not one of my own (to have my kids help as well would be wonderful)
5. Be a part of a small group – help lead if called – but I believe as a part of a group we can all take a leadership role
