S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Brett for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (96%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This has been affirmed for me a number of times in my life, particularly how I use words/language to encourage someone on their journey.

#2 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have been consistently given opportunities to walk with people that are looking for counsel, a listening ear, and spiritual guidance.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This gift was a bit of a surprise, but I am in a number of situations where I am placed by God to join Him in what He is doing in the lives of the musicians, hockey players, the marginalized, and young adults around me (that don’t follow Christ yet).

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Physical activity – mostly hockey, baseball, and running.

2. Boardgames and video games.

3. Reading.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I am energized by working alongside young adults (19-25ish) – this has been more of a recent thing in the last 4-5 years. I love working with people that are deep thinkers that act on it.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Excites: liturgy, art, discipleship, strong biblical teaching.
Concerns: church’s view of women, church’s relationship with the LGBTQ community (particularly those in our congregation – and their families), the church’s common default of trying to hide their brokenness and their [ongoing] battle with sin, church’s deep-seeded conviction (because our actions show it) that all sin isn’t equal.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Grew up in a Christian home, Christ was important to me early on (probably 8) – I was an irritating question-asker in a “tradition” that doesn’t appreciate questions.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Abbotsford Pentecostal Assembly (1994-2000)

Centre Street Church (2002-2006)
Lantern Community Church (2004-2005)

Horizon Community Church (2007-2009)
Southview Church (2009-present)

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Being asked to play piano for church in 1994, being asked to lead worship 1998.

Moving to Calgary in 2001, meeting Kristen in 2004.

Joining Southview Church in 2009.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Sexual abuse, 1990.

Completely lost and destructive to myself and others, 2000- 2003.

Summer, 2017.
