S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Cathy Calderwood for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have instigated, led and coached several different women’s Bible studies over the years.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. See other women learn and grow and make significant change as they experience God’s love for then.

2. Spent time with family, friends, share my heart, connect wth people.

3. Again, reconnect and encourage women I’ve ministered to previously, who perhaps have disconnected from the Church. Keep in touch, keep loving them no matter what.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Women, often a bit younger, who struggle with unbelieving spouses, raising kids, and balancing their love for God with other pulls on their hearts.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Women’s ministries, bible studies, small groups.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was seven on Easter morning walking to church with my family, when I realized what Jesus did for me on the cross, and I simply asked him into my heart.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Bible study leader, worship leader, elder at Brentwood Presbyterian church, Burnaby. B.C. 1981-1992. Same positions at First Presbyterian, New Westminster, B.C 1993-2000

BSF leader, Coquitlam, B.C ladies class, years about 1995-2000

FAC women’s coach and /or group leader, about 2002 until 2013 (roughly.)

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Oddly enough, being married to an unbeliever for 43 years has greatly shaped me, challenged me, and made my faith more real.

Relocating several times, travelling the world, being exposed to different ideas have all shifted my and strengthened me.

Great teaching at Sunday school as a child, various pastors and the BSF Stidies have made a firm foundation.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Seeing miraculous answers to prayer for people who were expecting bad outcomes. Our grandson was expected to be severely brain damaged at birth, and they were heavily advised to abort. I firmly believed God would heal him, and took a lot of flack for my position, but God did it and we have a wonderful, bright healthy boy!

I’m having a hard time sorting out my negative and positive experiences, since in the end they’ve all caused growth, which is positive. My husband’s retirement and our subsequent long term travelling has taken me away from my beloved ministries, which caused me anguish, but have also forced me to seek God alone. I’m writing this from a trip to the Philippines!

This year I’ve suffered some health issues, and I’ve spent more time communicating with friends, encouraging them and showing compassion for their situations, which are all more serious than mine.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I’d like to volunteer at an orphanage in Thailand.

4. I’d like to be able to spend my money helping others, family and friends who don’t have what I have.

5. I’d like to be involved again in a women’s group, and feel useful again.
