S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Cam Kilby for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Serving (65%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I like to serve people and put others first. I enjoy taking time for myself, don’t get me wrong, but seeing others joy, and helping them is what I like to do. That is the Mission Statement of my professional job at the YMCA is “Helping people reaching their God given potential through Spirit, Mind, and Body.” That is why I enjoy working there is the service aspect, and I enjoy serving in the local church.

#2 Gift, Evangelism (59%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy speaking to others about my faith and I share as much as I can at work and other places. However, I come from a background of a Fundamental Church, who went Door to Door “Soul Winning” and that kind of thing kind of left a sour taste of evangelism in my mouth the way they did that. So now I just share in a one on one situation at work or at the basketball court, etc.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (59%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I like to serve, and I like to encourage. Times can be tough, and there is no reason that we shouldn’t be about lifting others up.

[A]bilities

My current vocation:

I am the Youth Development Director at the William G. White Family YMCA in downtown Winston-Salem.

Other jobs I have experience in:

Yardwork, I was also a grocery store clerk, stock boy, and propane specialist.

Special talents/skills that I have:

I enjoy talking to people, serving others, I like to play any role that is asked of me. In my job I lead trainings of 200+ people on a Saturday, and come to church Sunday and help aid Ethan in whatever role is asked of me. So I am more than willing to do any job, big or small that helps E, or Dr. P. or anyone else in the church. I also am good with technology, as I am trained in computer engineering and I also just have a healthy interest in that kind of thing,

I have taught a class or seminar on:

I teach all the time at the Y on Child Safety, Fundamentals of Child Behaviors, and several other things that are related to youth and teen in an adult led care setting.

I feel my most valuable personal asset is:

Just being there if someone needs me. That’s 90% of the battle, i’d say!

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I come from a family of ministers. My Grandfather is a pastor, and he is was on the Board of the Southern Baptist Convention, so at an early age I was in church every time the doors were open. I became a Christian at 11 years old at a service with a pastor named Harold Hunter.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I served at my home church (Bethel Baptist-Canton, NC) doing Drama Team, and Puppet Team, and singing as well. I also did message for the youth service as well, and I have served in VBS roles at Bethel and VBC. I have been on the praise team at VBC, helped in various roles with VBS at VBC and worked in the children’s ministry as well. I was also the Tech director over the Youth Services at Bethel.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My Grandfather and his influence on my life.

My youth Pastor- Matt Rhea and him encouraging me and my spiritual growth with practical messages as I was growing up.

Going to Piedmont. (Meeting my wife, E, other friends, and staff there that were just amazing in my life)

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Seeing a lot of my friends go down terrible roads.

Experiences stemming from anger due to being too competitive, and letting that get the best of me, on a couple of occasions.

When I was in the 9th grade, at a youth event, having someone tell me that I was helping them in their christian walk, and that very same year ask me what happened and why I don’t rep Christ like I used to. That event really stuck with me.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. My relationship with myself. Sometimes I put my job in font of me, and that really effects the other things in my life, and by doing that, I end up putting other things last. I guess health would fall in this category as well.

4. Work/Volunteer opportunities. -More avenues for growth.

5. Do a mission trip. I have done ‘Mission” trips to places pretty close around where I am from (A couple of hours or so), so i wouldn’t mind going somewhere else to serve.
