#1 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I received Christ in 1977, one week before starting college.

Since 2005 I have read, studied, listened to audio and video messages, in the area of Freedom in Christ ministry. In 2004 had suffered anxiety attacks and hit bottom after about a year of suffering under legalism through a particular method of tract evangelism and street preaching, which I no longer use. From there, I began a healing journey through counseling, working through a study in grace vs. law, went from one good resource to another, and finally finding Freedom in Christ Ministries, FICM, which was started by Dr. Neil Anderson in 1989. I began establishing my Identity in Christ from the Word of God, believing who God says I am, and learning who I am in Him: Accepted, Significant, and Secure in Christ.

In 2007, I took myself through the Steps to Freedom in Christ, a comprehensive process of repentance in 7 major areas. Churches all over the world are using this approach to help people submit to God and resist the devil (James 4:7). The Steps to Freedom in Christ don’t set you free. It is Christ who sets you free through your response to Him in repentance and faith.

In 2008, I began taking a few believers through the Steps, with good results. In 2009, I participated in the pilot testing of training to become certified as a Community Freedom Ministry Associate (CFMA) with FICM. For about 3 – 4 years, I taught a Freedom in Christ Small-Group Bible Study at Plainedge Baptist Church, taking approximately 50 believers through the course and leading them through the Steps. I also trained a group of believers in am FICM Discipleship Counseling course on how to take others through the Steps.

A year before my divorce became final in 2013, I had to sever ties with my previous church, and chose to go “on sabbatical” as a CFMA. Recently, the Lord has brought me into a new season of growth and spiritual maturity. I took myself through the Steps again, and am on a daily journey with Jesus as he goes far below my surface awareness to cleanse me from wounds, lies, vows, and strongholds that have kept me from a deeper walk with Him.

I have been sensing many God encounters over the past weeks that I believe are leading me to re-establish a CFMA teaching, taking, and training journey with other believers through SRC. This is the exhortation/encouragement ministry I believe God has most SHAPEd me for.

2 Tim 2:24-25
24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

#2 Gift, Teaching (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have been teaching Engineering courses since 1984 at three different Universities. I have won severl awards for excellence in teaching. Since 2005, I have been teaching a Freshman level Design Course, heavily involving an 8-step design process, teamwork, and communication. The course has grown from 55 students to as many as 150 students as the ENGG Dept has grown. I also teach mutliple lab sections in association with this course.

I now teach a second Freshman level Design Course (3rd time). Teaching 18-year-old engineering students has become my passion in academics. I’ve learned to become far more relational in outlook, growing boundaries to establish my identity, and learning to be a servant leader for these new college students.

#3 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
The shepherding skills I have have come from leading Freshman students through the first year at college. My design course has several facets that work in conjunction with the First-Year Connections program on campus, helping my students transition from High School to College Life.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Making people (my students mostly) laugh. Starting from a very young age, I had the talent, timing, and skills to do this. My students respond favorably year after year to this.

2. Teaching is more like performing for me. I deliver the material through laughter, quality instructional materials, and genuine care and concern for my students.

3. Studying the Freedom in Christ material, and interacting with the FICM leadership and other ministry associates. Also studying Deeper Walk International audio messages, TRHIVE Today relational skills, Listening Prayer. All these to bering me more in tune and in sync with God’s rhythms for my life.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

For FICM, I enjoy working with adult believers. Anyone from their 20’s and up who have personal and spiritual conflicts that they find difficulty resolving.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I would love to continue working as a CFMA beginning a new work at SRC, under the authority and leadership of SRC. Teaching people about who they are in Christ, and taking them on a gentle and compassionate journey through the Seven Steps: 1. Counterfeit vs Real, 2. Deception vs Truth, 3. Bitterness vs Forgiveness, 4. Rebellion vs Submission, 5. Pride vs Humility, 6. Bondage vs Freedom, and 7. Curses vs Blessings. This is wonderful truth encounter that the believer prays through, with guidance, that the Lord honors, resolving many of the conflicts in a relatively short session.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

My Mom was a Christian for 7 years before me. My sister received the Lord 2 years before me. I hung out with a young custodian at my High School who was a Chrsitian and we talked about it alot. I was very sick one day, and on August 28, 1977, while in pain in my stomach, my Mom gently rubbed my shoulders and just said,”Why don’t you pray to the Lord to receive Him?” I exclaimed, “NO.”, and then immediately prayed the sinners paryer I had read so many time in Chic Tracks.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Plainedge Baptist Church, Bethpage, NY,
Adult Bible Fellowship “Sunday School” teacher 3 years.
CFMA leader, 3-4 years

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My growing relationship with my daughter, who is now 22 years old. We both have recovered well from my divorce, and she and I have an amazing relationship, both family and spiritual relationship. I help her “adult” and she also helps me!

Increasing my emotional capacity in learning to receive true love from my fiance. I love her and learned how to receive love in our relationship.

Learning who I am in Christ and walking in Freedom in Christ.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

The most current is an ongoing (8 weeks so far) mutually agreed to time of non-communication with my finace, E. She request this to help make it easier for her to precess her depression, and to sort out many issues in her life. In this time, I have come to a fuller awareness of her issues, with God doing a great work of emotional healing in me. I pray for E every day, and let her know every few weeks that I love her, and I’m here for her. We are still engaged.

My divorce after years of emotional and relational abuse from my former spouse. Through this, and my daughter’s counseling at her Christian school, my daughter and I have come to a far greater understanding of the issues that led to the divorce, and she and I are far, far, far closer than ever before.

Negative experiences at school, helping me to pray and show more compassion for my students and faculty and adminstration.
