S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Christie Hudson for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I don’t think of myself as a super encouraging person, but I do love having deep one on one conversations with people. Hearing their stories, and trying to point them to Christ in that…I guess that could be considered exhortation?

#2 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I hope this one doesn’t mean I’m up front teaching large groups of people. I do not enjoy that. But if it’s more of a one on one thing, then yes I would agree. Large groups don’t allow for people to get real and share their experiences. I think I could see shepherding. I enjoy really getting to know people and making them feel known and welcome.

#3 Gift, Serving (53%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Again, I don’t think of myself as a willing server (sadly). But in the context of helping people in charge with smaller tasks that are unnecessary for them to take the time to complete, I’m happy to alleviate some stress…I’m happy and prefer to be in the background, rather in the spotlight.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Having a real conversation with someone. People aren’t my favorite and I’m not very good with words, but there’s just something about sitting down with someone and having an honest, often vulnerable conversation with them. There are so few people who do that sort of thing, and frankly, I don’t like to use what limited social battery I have if it’s not meaningful conversation. I like to hear about peoples thoughts and opinions on things, and even hear about where they are emotionally and spiritually. A lot of people in my generation tend to stuff their emotions because no one likes to talk about them. I used to be the same way. Now I like to draw that out of people, because when people did it to me, it made me feel known and loved. And that’s what I want to do for other people. Honestly, this probably just boils down to: I love to listen to peoples stories.

2. I love discipleship. I love being discipled, and I love discipling others. This may be too similar to my first paragraph, but it’s literally set aside (often) one on one time to talk about spiritual things in a very real manner. When we’re talking about a particular topic or passage in scripture, I make sure to ask more than just surface level questions. The Bible isn’t just a how to book, on how to live moral lives. It applies to each aspect of who we are. I didn’t realize that until just recently, and I’m still reeling from the applications of that. So I try to ask some personal questions of my disciples, so that they can better see how what we’re studying isn’t just some action we need to take, but rather a change to our heart condition, and how that’s what God’s all about. Not just the dos and don’ts.

3. This might seem kind of silly, but I just really enjoy getting people together to play games. Board games, card games, I’ve played them all. Or most of them it feels like. It’s a great way to bring people together without letting that time drift into people just being on their phone and forces everyone to engage with everyone. And games are great for bringing out laughter.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Girls roughly my age, maybe a few years younger. Especially if they’re more quiet and introverted. I’m the same way and remember what it felt like to feel like there was no one else like me. I love to make them feel known and welcomed.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I technically became a Christian when I was 4. Obviously don’t remember that very well. But I remember a moment of rededication when I was 12, however, I wouldn’t say the gospel really started to impact my every day life until college. That’s when I realized I either had to really make this my own, or drop it because there was no one expecting anything of me anymore.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I was a part of my student ministry band from 6th grade to graduation. I played piano. Parkway Place Baptist church, Little Rock, Arkansas. Not sure if that really counts though, I was sorta forced into it.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Joining Cru. It made me realize what living out the Gospel really looked like. It’s also brought me several solid Christian friends that have changed me in so many ways.

Going to therapy. It’s a recent change, but I feel so much different today than I have in the past 2 years of my life.

This isn’t just one experience, so I don’t know if this counts, but talking to my mom. I didn’t always tell my mom about what was going on in my head, but starting in middle school and high school, I started letting her in. That was the best choice I ever made. She’s been a constant arrow towards Christ, a listener, and now one of my best friends. And she’s not afraid to speak the truth that I don’t want to hear. I can’t even imagine the different person I would be if I had never opened up to her.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Last semester. My depression reached an all time high (or low rather), my family moved to Florida, I was exhausted and fed up with God. I started going to therapy. I hated almost every moment of last semester, but it’s given me a real passion for helping people see when they need help. I lived in denial so long about my depression, thinking it was normal and there was nothing I could do about it. Now I know what it feels like, but I also know that God still works and is present in those moments and that he doesn’t want us to just sit in it. Though we are promised struggle, we are also promised life, and living it abundantly.

I went on a 6 week mission trip with Cru to East Asia. Those were the worst 6 weeks of my life. Every moment of that trip was completely outside of my comfort zone. Honestly, I still can’t really say for sure why the Lord called me to go on that trip. It’s been two years, and I’m still learning things from it and seeing things that got started that summer 2 years ago, and are just now coming to fruition.

My family moving to Florida was really hard for me. I was never the college student that went home every weekend, but I always liked knowing that I could if I just needed to get away from the crazy for two days. But with all that was going on last semester, I needed my family more than ever. But they weren’t as available. It’s started showing me that even if you have a great family, there’s still a time that we all have to start breaking away and become our own people. “Emerging adult” is what my mom calls me, and though I roll my eyes at her when she says it, she has a point. Though I still adore and depend on my family, I have to start becoming my own person and doing things for myself. It’s made me realize that college is the time for students to start to break away, not rebelliously or meaning they leave their family behind, but they need to start thinking about their family, the impact their family had on their lives, and if it was a good impact. I’ve met so many students whose family was, simply put, not good. God has created us all different. We need to embrace those differences.
