S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Chris Barfield for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Administration (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
God gave it to me because He uses me to bring order out of chaos. He also has used it time and time again to accomplish much fruit.

#2 Gift, Teaching (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This is a natural gift of God. I have no problem getting up in front of a room/lecture hall/worship center full of folks and presenting. It might be a message that God has laid on my heart, or a detail of needs requiring a capital expenditure or teaching a lesson to a group of students. This is my sweet spot. It’s what I love to do!

#3 Gift, Evangelism (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
At first, I struggled sharing my faith. But over my adult life, God has given me the ability to speak into the lives of those needing Him the most. At Beach Reach over spring break, He used me as a driver of 1 of the vans, but also used me to reach the unreachable.

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Create: It could be a message/sermon/lesson or a display for a special event. One of my former pastors dubbed me with the title “Creative Chris.” I thrive in environments where creativity, not negativity, are welcomed and encouraged.

2. Leading: groups of people. I am Type A, first born, natural born leader. I can’t help it. Even in a room of chaos, I will often try to speak up and lead. I live to lead.

3. Administrate/organize: I’ve heard it said many times from staff, supervisors, participants and volunteers that I am gifted in not only seeing things from the big picture, but being able to organize, delegate and administrate the details of each step so that the goal is achieved.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

People who wanting to be led. The old saying is true…”you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink.” I thrive working with groups (regardless) of age, who are looking for leadership. This is true in ministry, be it a building project, special event or mission trip, as well as, in the corporate world, be it sales, launching a new product, special event or motivational contest.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Removing inhibitors to growth – God wants to work, but sometimes we or things get in the way
Mentoring/teaching/training the upcoming generations to love God, accept Christ, be discipled, learn how to serve and lead, and succeed when the “torch” is passed to them.
Missions/the lost in the world: it’s up to us to take the Good News and share the love of Christ to the ends of the Earth.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

As a twelve-year old boy, I accepted Christ at Pine Cove Camp in East Texas. I as the only kid from our church that attended. I was about to the enter the 6th grade. My Associate Pastor, who took me to camp, is the one who shared Christ with me, while driving his Volkswagen Beetle up and down the hills of East Texas. He led me to the Lord. I prayed to receive Christ.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

First Baptist Church, Denton, Texas
Kids Pastor – approx. 8 years

Champion Forest Baptist Church, Houston, Texas
Associate Pastor of Kids Ministries – 1.5 years

Crossroads Baptist Church, The Woodlands, Texas
Kids Pastor – 3+ years

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Being discipled and trained to be an effective pastor by Rev. Louis Boyd. He showed me the “ropes” of ministry

Leading each of my kids to Christ and getting to baptize each of them

Stepping out of my comfort zone, in faith, and being willing to do what I believed The Lord was calling, equipping and leading me to do

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Having major surgery twice on my right arm when I was in 1st and 2nd grades. It totally changed my life. I was bullied, ridiculed and mocked for the scar that I have on my arm. Positive: I’m ambidextrous to this day

Having a parent with Alzheimer’s – nothing more helpless than wanting to help someone you love just remember, and they simply can’t do it

I’m a divorced person. My wife abandoned me and our relationship of 28.5 years in the fall of 2016. I never knew before what people really go through, who are divorced and now I do. I also know of the impact it makes on one’s kids, family and friends

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would go into full-time mission work, traveling around the world, sharing the Gospel

4. I would start my own foundation for kids/families who are middle to lower middle class – so much available financial help to those who are poor

5. I would write several books and take time off from mission work to promote what God has taught me about life, manhood, marriage/divorce and serving Him
