S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Chris Noonan for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Evangelism (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love sharing The Word and God’s Truth! I didn’t grow up in the church but I am born again since May 12, 1998. I love sharing how God has changed my life! If He can change mine, He most certainly can change yours.

#2 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have been forgiven by God through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Along the way I have sinned and blessed to get right with God through Jesus. I understand blowing it (sin) and being forgiven. In sharing my experiences I’m able to counsel and get fellow believers straight with Jesus!

#3 Gift, Mercy Showing (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Our Lord has shown me so much mercy (getting what I don’t deserve) and in turn I find it rewarding pointing out to people how beautiful mercy is.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Sharing how God has truly changed my life from a wretched sinner to a follower of Jesus. I wake up eagerly at 4:00 AM to spend an hour in the Bible learning more and craving every word. Since I have started this discipline two years ago, my life has changed so much. I find so much comfort in reading and learning God’s Word!

2. Bible Study (Life Group); I absolutely love getting together with our Life Group and learning/sharing God’s precious Word. We have been such a support for each other especially since CoViD-19 has affected how we worship. I see how God is using us and inspiring us to do His will! Wednesday nights have a new meaning since we started meeting.

3. Being in the fellowship of Christians from all walks of life. Learning from others and listening to their experiences/growth through their walk with Jesus.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

All my life I have enjoyed working with people 10 – 15 years older than me (about 65-70; now that I’m 53. I find that I learn so much from their wisdom and stories of their lives…

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Bible Study.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was in a crossroads after college and a bit discouraged with my degree and occupation. My barber who also became a Christian later in life invited be to his Bible Study to learn more about Jesus. I took him up on it and the emptiness that I had was quickly filled by the Holy Spirit and my yearning to walk closer to Jesus has increased exponentially since.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Grief Share at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church in Solana Beach 2019-2020

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My wife Kelli – we’ve been together for almost 33 years:)

Becoming an elementary school teacher – my friends from high school couldn’t believe I became a teacher (I was a rascal).

Accomplishments in surfing (I still can’t believe I was paid to do something started off doing as a fun activity).

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Jailed for shoplifting (spending a night in jail – I’ll never forget).

Daughter who is addicted to alcohol and drugs (thankfully she’s been sober for two years). This has given me so much compassion for those facing addiction.

Getting into fights when I was younger (that never works out).

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. 1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Sharing the Gospel with people.

4. Working with people struggling with addiction.

5. Create a ministry which involves the ocean and activities in and around it.
