S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you David Spiven for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Giving (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This does not surprise me. I don’t know if this was a byproduct of my raising, or if it something that I have picked up on my own, but I have always been extremely generous, to a fault.

#2 Gift, Serving (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This I know for sure I have picked up on my own along the way. I have always strived to put others before me and to help support anyone in any way that I can. It is a large reason I have chosen the profession that I have. It’s also one reason why I considered going into ministry.

#3 Gift, Prophecy (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’ll be honest, I don’t know how I scored so high on this one. I don’t see myself as that prophetic, but then again I may be putting too much meaning into that word.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. My wife has said that my philosophy to life is “give me Jesus and give me people.” That’s very accurate. I wish to serve Jesus in whatever way he needs to use me and I also wish to serve people however they need me. I also have a heart for community building. That’s one of the reasons we live where we do and why I am as active in the community around us.

2.

3.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

The underserved. The people on the margins who get forgotten about or are only thought about when it’s convenient for someone to think about, and support, them.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Seems to be a typical salvation story for most who grew up in the church, accepted Christ at a young age. You could say I was “on fire” for Christ for many years then walked away from the church for many years because of problems I had with the denomination I was raised in (SBC). Felt called back to the church and broke away from the toxic theology I grew up in. Have been working on reforming my beliefs ever since.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Fredericksburg, Va. (5 years)

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

One friend, who happens to be a pastor, helping me realize I was stuck in bad theology and to open my mind to the possibility that Christianity is not what I thought it was.

Another friend, who is also a pastor, helping me realize that I can make some life decisions on my own and God will realign to what I’ve decided.

Serving dinner weekly to the homeless and food insecure through the church I attended in college.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Having been raised in the Southern Baptist denomination. That’s really it. It helps me understand how people can think they have it so right but be so horribly misguided.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Feed our community through the community garden we are helping to expand.
