Thank you Daryl A. Felton for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Travel and discovering new places and cultures.

2. Spend time with my family and friends. I LOVE the Connect Group I am in.

3. Love the stories in the bible. they are like old school soap operas. I love listening to the various stories.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I love working with people mostly between the ages of 20-50. I love the energy of the youth, and the wisdom of the elders.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

One that I want to start is a ministry for young black men with no fathers at home. My mother & father have been married for 55 years. I don’t know what its like NOT to have a father in the house. My heart cries for those who don’t know what that feeling is like. My father was there for everything.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I used to attend a church in Chicago called Vernon Park Church of God. I attended for only about 4 years before I moved to Houston, but it was there where I gave myself to the Lord, and became saved. I was also baptized there.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I have served mostly at The Church Without Walls with Pastor Ralph West. I was there for 13 years before coming to Higher D. I served as a greeter for 6 of the 13 years.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Meeting my wife. I was in a terrible relationship right before I met her and I prayed to God to show me what a beautiful love really looked like. I knew that I was the cause of my own relationship problems and I prayed that God would remove me from the equation. He told me that He would show me what a real love looked like and the next day I met my wife. I committed to what God showed me, and I met, dated, courted, and married that woman. Next to God, She is the best thing that has happened to me.

The birth of my daughter, Sydney. Although my first marriage did not work out, my daughter is a blessing and has taught me how to be patient and attentive.

Moving to Houston and leaving Chicago. The environment there…although beautiful can be toxic. The people there are hustlers by nature and sometimes that can be a plus and a minus.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

When I was 16, living in Chicago, I was selling drugs and stole an extra $25 from a guy I was selling for so that I could go to Jr. Homecoming. I was walking home from school that evening with my best friend when the guy I stole from came around the corner in a Grand Prix and shot 4 times. He hit my best friend in the temple and he bled to death in my arms.

In April 2012, my girlfriend and I lost our unborn baby boy. The relationship between her and I was very volatile, but I was hoping to have a son one day and I lost him.

When I was 19, I was arrested for theft. The terrible part was that I was working for my father and he was there when I was handcuffed and taken in. I knew I broke his heart.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To buy my wife the home of her dreams.

4. To open my own business maybe even a corporation, and employ thousands of people of color.

5. To Travel the world and visit places on my bucket list.
