1. Worship our Lord in a corporate setting – hearing the Word, singing, and praying!

2. Spending time with family and friends – going out to eat, dancing, movies.

3. Spend quiet times of reflection…just me and God! It could be in nature or in my comfy chair with my coffee.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I like to work with those new people that are just finding their way to the church for the first time, or those finding their way back to the church after many years. I also like to work with young or new couples. I am also connect to those that are elderly, withdrawn or outcast.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

The two ministries that are very exciting to me are the Small Group Ministry and the Spanish Ministry. I can see the potential for both of these ministries to have a critical impact in the evolution of MCC of San Antonio. I am most concerned about the Loves Day Dinner and Dance.

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

From my earliest childhood memories, I was in the church. I would have to say that I became closer to God as I became a teen. I grew very close to God through weekly Sunday School and active youth group at my church in Del Rio.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

First Presbyterian Church, Del Rio, Texas
Raised in this church from the time I was a child. Active in Sunday School and Youth Group.

St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, San Antonio, Texas
Assisted with annual church festival for approximately 5 years.

Metropolitan Community Church, San Antonio, Texas
Active member for over 15 years. Led Small Group Ministry and Couples Ministry for a number of years. Headed the Loves Day Dinner and Dance for a number of years. Attended a number Regional and General Conferences throughout the years. Served one term as Lay Delegate.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My parents, grandparents, as well as aunts and uncles modeled unconditional love. They also showed me the importance of family and loving relationships. My parents also played a very active role in my life as I grew up. They held leadership roles in my public schooling, church, scouting and sports.

My relationship with Tony has changed me immeasurably. Having met in 1984 as a young 23 year old man that did not have a lot of life experiences, Tony has shown me his unconditional love, dedication, and support through life’s many ups and downs. We have a very large blended family that loves and accepts us.

I have also been blessed many times throughout my lifetime with mentors who have taken me under their wing to encourage me and allow me to grow – Sunday School teacher (Richard Beauchamp), youth group leaders (Robert and Omega Zavala), co-workers (Allie Decker and Carmen Rivero), pastor (Rev. Mick Hinson).

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

There have been a number of deaths during my life that have impacted me:
1. The death of two classmates in two separate car accidents when I was a senior in high school taught me how life can change at a blink of an eye.
2. The death of my grandfather as he lost his battle with cancer taught me the importance of saying goodbye.
3. The death of my grandmother due to complications of Alzheimers and the death of my father due to many health issues taught me the pain of long goodbyes.
4. The loss of a number of friends throughout the years during the AIDS crisis taught me the importance of compassion during transition.
5. The sudden heart attack and death of my mother 30 days after my father’s passing taught me the pain of not being able to say goodbye.

My dissatifaction with a job and murder of one of my best friends took me spiraling into a dark state of depression. Due to this I have a strong compassion for those suffering with depression or abusive relationships. I also can relate to those that are in jobs that are not fulfilling.

Being closeted for many years, fearing rejection from those that were closest to me also has shaped me and gives me a connection with those who still struggle self-acceptance as well as those seeking acceptance from the ones they love the most.
