S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you David Lee for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Teaching (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy uncovering/discovering biblical truths I haven’t previously understood and sharing what I’m learning (rather than what I’ve already been taught.) I’ve been told that contextualizing scripture is a strength of my teaching.

#2 Gift, Serving (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Previous spiritual gifts inventories have identified ‘service’ as my primary gift; “Acts of service” is my primary love language. Doing “small things with great love” brings me joy!

#3 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (59%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I don’t know if this is a gift or an occupational necessity – but I genuinely do care for people, and it matters that they know they don’t have to face challenging seasons alone.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Conversational bible study, where I lead people to discover biblical truth rather than just imparting what I think they need to know.

2. Photography – framing a shot atypically, showing a new perspective

3. Being part of powerful corporate worship. I don’t have to lead, but I do love playing guitar in a worship setting – and there’s nothing like seeing songs connect people’s hearts to the majesty of God!

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I think I’ve always liked working with people 10-25 years younger than I – IF they have a hunger to grow! It energizes me to see people make connections (with each other, with their gifts, with biblical truth) and get propelled forward in their faith.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Leadership development – equipping the next generation to faithfully lead/shepherd, according to their gifts and the Spirit’s leading.
And I would love to be part of vocational ministry training – construction, auto mechanics, culinary arts, whatever. Taking people with those skills and teaching generation next to use them for ministry purposes, to bless the community.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Grew up in the church, but was changed at a holiday bible school in London, England when the reality of “lost” hit home. Became serious about following Jesus when I learned to love lost people in a way I never had.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Ha! Clear Creek, 1991-Present. Children’s/Student ministry, worship, discipleship, missions, stage design, tech…..

Mortons Gap Christian Church, 1988-1991, Children’s/Student Ministry

Internships, weekend ministries: Smoky Mountain Christian Church, Ellettsville Christian Church, summer missions internship in London…

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

During high school, attending a home bible study. Learned a new way to engage w/ scripture, and received affirmation re: call to ministry

Missions internship (referenced above)

Being part of a church which affirmed my gifts and calling – so many people who spoke truth into my life.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

This will be hard – I don’t hold onto things that way. I guess cancer??

And I got my heart broken once – which helped expose some idolatries in my life and give me a renewed focus on ministry.

The whole COVID/election confluence shaped me, but I’m not sure it was in any good ways…………..

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To equip leaders for the next generation of church, outside the Bible College model. Working in existing church ministries, but also learning real-world skills alongside (for instance) guys transitioning out of Wheeler. Theological training from visiting BC profs/retired bi/vo ministers.

4. Establishing a healing ministry for ministers (and their families) who have been driven to the brink – a place for family, financial and spiritual healing, in the context of physical work (construction, farming, clearing land – something where results are tangible and mental focus is singular.)

5. Being able to support missions and ministries in trajectory-changing fashion – like, through a trust or foundation which would be able to fund major projects or initiatives so they wouldn’t have to go chasing money for years and years.
