Thank you Doug Wene for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. [H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I enjoy solving complex machinery problems at my work and coaching my employees to learn skills.

2. I enjoy teaching Life Groups. I have been told I have a talent for that. With kids especially boys I have the ability to make learning fun without loosing control of the class. They want to come back. With adults I’m not a lecturer. I like to make people think and share their thoughts with the class.

3. I enjoy teaching my children financial responsibility. My Mother always said we don’t want you to think the world owes you a living. I have put that on my children and they are all investors with nice portfolios, learning how to budget etc.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I’ve been told I have a gift with boys ages 10-17. Mostly from Scouting, but also at previous large church we attended they separated the boys from the girls up until high school. I taught boys all these ages. They are a tough group but I like the challenge. But I can also teach adults as long as they don’t want a lecture.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I have little experience in this area. The few times I’ve served on a committee at church it felt like watching grass grow. Took weeks to find consensus and get everyone to agree. I’m willing to try but patience isn’t my biggest attribute. I like to see things get done. Not just talk about getting it done. So I might be a little too impatient for some committees.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was raised in a Christian home. I professed my faith at age 11 and the Holy Spirit came upon me.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Clear Lake Methodist Church – Houston, Texas – Life Group Leader for Young Marrieds Ages 20-30. Also Single Adult Ministry organized events (Called Club Uno)

College Heights Christian Church – Joplin, Missouri. Lead Accountability Group for Men (PromiseKeepers Movement) Hosted Home Group (Like Life group but outside the Church) With men’s ministry performed home repairs for widows/single Mom but always in group.

Bay Area Church – League City Texas. Taught Life Group for 5+ years. Mainly boys ages 10-13. Substitute teacher for Adult Classes when called upon. At NOBC I help Jim with the Facebook Live broadcast.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Marrying Clair McCormack Wene a Godly woman and good mother to my children.

Raising my 4 kids

Starting my business in 2011

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I married my college sweetheart. 2 years later she had an affair with a office mate and eventually left me for him. I learned that somethings are totally out of your control and all you can do is dust yourself off, learn from the experience and move on. All prayers don’t get answered the way you want.

In 1995 I had lung cancer (never smoked) and had a lung removed. Doctor said I was terminal – no hope. But here I am still here. Doctors don’t know everything. Jesus is the true physician.

When I started my business I was sued by a competitor that did their best to bankrupt me. But Jesus came to my rescue in a most miraculous way and I won the lawsuit and the Judge ruled that the competitor had to pay my $600,000 in legal fees.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would like the opportunity to mentor men to provide for their families. I know that parolees have a hard time getting their first job. Right now I hired a convicted sexual predator at my company that has a pHD in chemistry but couldn’t find employment after prison. I find that rewarding.

4. In scouting I was touched by how many boys don’t have positive male role models. I don’t have a plan currently but would like to help in that area.

5. I took a week long trip to Israel. I followed in Jesus’s footprints. I would help support others to have this opportunity financially. The trip impacted me and helps me to understand so much more about the Bible.
