S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Ethan Rogers for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Administration (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have a strong desire to give when asked and I know I can be a vessel for God to build up resources & redistribute. The down side to this is blindly giving without addressing the heart of someone’s pain or attempting to give them Christ.

#2 Gift, Giving (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’m a doer/worker & I know that there’s many roles I can play in a ministry other than straight up pastor. God has blessed me with ambition and conscientiousness that can translate to accomplishing a lot in a short amount of time.

#3 Gift, Teaching (50%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
When I feel prepared & knowledgeable on a subject, I have no issue presenting it with the intent of teaching others. Especially if it’s lessons learned from personal experience where the full picture of what I did wrong/right is evident.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Skiing, Playing sports/football, being active, lifting weights, yardwork?? Fixing our cars??? cant believe I’m saying that but I get a great sense of gratification of accomplishing something requiring work.

2. Fellowship with others

3.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Teenage guys. I really feel like I can relate to a lot of them especially when I didn’t even realize my own potential that people saw in me at that age. They can truly start being leaders in their school’s if they’re given tools and even a little bit of encouragement, as well as guidance.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I see directly the evidence of what God can do with 90% as opposed to what I can do with 100%. (Financial Stewardship/tithing). It pains me to see RCCC have finances be an ongoing topic because of lack of obeying God.

I would love to see an influx of young men start participating in RCCC. I just notice aside from the 5-6 I regularly see the average age of the men in RCCC SEEMS to be 40+ but I’m also not sure. I may be off

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in Church and asked Jesus into my heart in 2nd grade, I believe that decision was real but it wasn’t until facing true temptations in late-highschool and early college that I had to return to who I was meant to be and really try to understand what being a follower of Jesus means. When offered worldy pleasures during this time I caved even knowing that is was the wrong thing to do. I was convicted of my sin in a way that couldn’t be ignored and I had to really ask the question “what is Jesus to me?” When I could finally understand the truth that he is saving me from my own sin and that he is the son of God was when I truly felt like I could grasp the line of “I’m following Jesus or I’m not,” Since that period I have had to let go of a lot of guilt from knowing I knew the right path and chose not to follow Jesus for several years. I know I have a huge role in God’s kingdom and I see it as my life’s challenge to accept whatever he has in store for me every day.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

5-6 years of being a children’s camp counselor at First Baptist Church – Midland

2 Years of Leading Rec-Team for Children’s Summer Camps.

Miscellaneous serving opportunities for Men’s retreats/ski-trips, summer camps, fundraisers, VBS.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Being voted as team captain for my highschool football team. At 17, I didn’t see myself as a leader in the slightest but I showed up everyday and worked harder than anyone and this was voted on by my 100+ teammates. Unusual for someone with no former varsity experience before that time.

Leading a Rec-team all summer in 2012. I got to exercise leadership and also just have a lot of fun all summer with my friends and thousands of kids.

Graduating college with an engineering degree was surreal as I was an A/B student in highschool & I didn’t feel like I was much of an academic. Another testament to diligence & hardwork.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Losing my virginity at the age of 17 when first presented with the temptation of sex. Very ashamed as I knew what sex was all about and the implications and risk of sex before marriage, but the very first temptation couldn’t be resisted because I wasn’t walking closely with the Lord.

Just generally seeing how my dry & mean spirited humor has hurt others at various times of my life. Something I struggle with daily.

Seeing my wife struggle with true tragedy in her life with her Dad’s suicide. This has made me 100x more compassionate than I would be otherwise and has opened the door for me as far as trying to hear and be empathetic to others’ pain.
