S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Brian Kurtyka for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am joyful as a result of the giving acts. Whether time, money or thoughts I attempt to use the resources God has blessed me with to better the lives of others.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
God’s love for me has given me purpose, and I am confident that I have felt his hand on my life in very real ways. That makes it very “real” to me and not just my religious “theory” that I choose from a book shelf of options.
With that conviction, I understand that it’s my duty to spread that word to others and my desire to share my joy with them for their benefit.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have been blessed with a multitude of gifts and abilities. Being able to utilize them gives me joy and fulfillment. Serving others is one of the ways that I can utilize my talents.
[H]eart
1. Teaching/training others for areas that I have been blessed in. Whether this is technology, finances, security, etc. the topic doesn’t seem to relate to the amount of fulfillment.
2. Spending quality time with family and friends, preferably face to face. It can be an event or just sitting / talking. Time spent forms memories for me and I enjoy and value the time spent with others.
3. Giving gifts, whether financial or physical. When I have items that others have need of, I try to take it as an opportunity for our family to downsize or simplify – so that it can be donated to those more in need than us. Sometimes this works, other times it is less disruptive for us to purchase the item for the other person.
My wife and I enjoy “gaming” the giving percentage to see how far we can increase it year over year.
People who are financially struggling, either from hardship or from lack of knowledge.
Financial counseling / benevolence, security, missions.
Marriage/family issues
Financial stewardship
Spiritual laziness
[A]bilities
Technology manager
Youth group leader, computer programmer, network administrator, technical trainer, retail store clerk.
Tech convergence / simplification, budgeting, handyman, strategic planning and cooking.
Financial stewardship, use of computers / technology and marriage building.
Adaptability. This combined with a high level of comfort in high stress situations allows for me to feel comfortable and minister in situations that for others would be extremely difficult.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.
Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace
Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.
Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility
[E]xperience
High school moment of clarity where “living in a church” being a good person ceased being enough. Moment of salvation propelled me in wanting and expecting more from life.
Assistant youth pastor for 6 years.
Youth worship leader / co-leader for 8 years.
Security team member / eventual co-lead for 14 years.
Traveling for several years working with various youth groups to repair / start them gave exposure to quite a few churches. What problems and solutions were shared between them has served me well.
During high school and early college time frame I was able to travel extensively abroad. This exposure to significantly different cultures has notably impacted my world view as well as perception of my own personal limits / impediments.
Near death experience while in the hospital and ill. I truthfully believe it is an unfortunate example of me being very stubborn and God needing to continually escalate his requests for my attention. I feel I learned how to listen better to the Holy Spirit in guiding my daily life, we call them “nudges”.
Several business partners that have let me down. Failure of the business or total responsibility falling to me makes it hard for me to rely on others. However, as a result of these experiences I make a concerted effort to be reliable to those around me and to honor my commitments.
My wife and I were actively deceived by a national bank regarding the sale of her father’s home after he passed away. Major deception that included false promises, almost theft of funds under false pretenses and damaged family relationship from the couple who thought they were being sold the house. This was a bad situation, however highlighted for me the extreme and in my opinion deplorable methods that financial institutions will use on people. This prompted a renewed effort to do more financial counseling and awareness, specifically with a Biblically-minded approach.
Kelly’s father passing away at a younger age unexpectedly. Although this has left a hole in our lives, it also afforded me a very personal change to counsel someone through great loss and see how that loss continues to impact someone over time. I have adjusted my counseling method and goals as a result of this and feel that I’m a more sympathetic individual and that I’m more inclined to encourage others to “nip problems in the bud”. (since you don’t know what tomorrow holds)

- Everyone Else After those
3. More time in ministry, potentially as my full time job.
4. Increased role in teaching my children.
