S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Garrick Jordan for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #3 Gift, Teaching (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love imparting wisdom which I pray for continuously, because I think that a well learned seminarian produces better disciples when he/she can understand and explain biblical truths.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Singing which I do professionally and as a worship leader.

2. Conversing about self reflections and how we live out our truths.

3. Being with family and being around those who enlighten, love, and keep me accountable.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I love to work with adults who are young in ministry, the marginalized and those on the fringes of society. I also love young obedient children in which I can teach Sunday School lessons to.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I don’t like church politics. I don’t like the business portion of church. I am most excited about the worship being real and authentic. I am excited about those who seek a deeper connection to God.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was raised in a rural town in NC, the bible belt so I grew up in the church. I was a Missionary Baptist and learned early to love God. I was baptized by 12 and served when I could. Called to ministry in 1991.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Faith Congregational United Church of Christ in Hartford, CT
First Baptist in Raleigh NC Worship Leader 3 years
St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church in Raleigh NC-2 years worship leader
Metropolitan Community Church of DC in Washington DC -Communion Server and worship leader
Plymouth United Church of Christ in Washington DC -Adjunct minister and worship leader

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Chaplain Residency with4 units of clinical pastoral education at a Level 1 Truama unit allowed me to experience different faith beliefs and explore cultural competencies with a lot of self reflection. Also working in the Neonatal ICU Mother and Baby, and General population of New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington NC and WakeMed of Raleigh, NC after attending seminary at Shaw University School of Divinity and receiving my MDiv.

L’arche is an organization in which I served as a live-in community assistant. I served 4 people with intellectual disabilities which taught and shape a lot of my thought as it relates to marginalized individuals.

Touring 5 continents in 4 years singing with the Harlem Gospel Choir, learning and seeing new cultures and experiencing life among others.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Losing jobs and having to rely on unemployment and other state benefits and too often struggling with how hard the government makes it to apply. Advocacy is needed so badly so that is where I step in. I have been on both sides of the table.

Leaving jobs that i enjoyed but looking for better and more experiences.

Preparing documentation for the sole reason of billing as if people were products.

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would sing and preach around the world as an Evangelist

4. Serve as a certified chaplain in a Level 1 truma center.

5. Have a family and be debt free while teaching, preaching, and singing in a community.
