I care deeply for His people and I understand the need to show mercy to others because He has shown it to me so often and I can’t expect for Him to extend mercy to me if I’m not willing to extend it to others.

Because of my gift of mercy I am always willing and desire to encourage those who are experiencing a hard situation. His word shows us so many promises that He has for us and that in itself is so encouraging to me that I want to share that with others.

[E]xperience

I was raised in a Christian family, and never really knew anything different, I had a personal experience with Christ at church camp feeling His nudge that I needed Him in my life and soon after was baptized at age 11… but I don’t really think I understood the “relationship” with Christ until my adult years… that it was the relationship that really He really wants from me and that I need from Him.

I grew up in First Christian Church in Arlington, TX and remember serving as a elementry school kid in VBS, visiting nursing homes, sitting with church members who were in nursing homes, walking for UNICEF, serving meals to the homeless, being a deaconness, always attending and participating in Sunday School and Youth functions of all types. I always helped on church clean up days, visiting church members in the hospital and those type of activities. I became distanced from the church when a college and career sponsor shared with our group that he didn’t believe in God (and he was a former pastor)… I asked the question then why do you come to church and he said it was because the church was a good avenue to meet the needs of people. He called himself and his wife humanists… but what ws most disturbing to me was that my pastor knew they didn’t believe in God and had them in a leadership role influencing young adults. I left the church soon after that.

After we had children I took the kids to First Baptist Church in Mansfield but never really engaged in any activities there except going to sunday school and church…

Attended Oak Grove for years before I joined the church and joined at that time so I could teach Sunday School to the 4 year olds, which I did for several years. I attended church without Sunday School for at least 3 years before I started attending Sunday School and once I did that I got to know people and got involved in a number of things at the church including serving on the personnel committee, missions committee, stewardship committee, FIA team, Women’s Ministry, Grove Groups, VBS, Sunday School teacher, prayer team, many ministry opportunities at Hospice House, Heritage Place, Skeedaddle Fun Run, visiting homebound and I know many other things.

Growing up in a family who served the Lord through ministry… that was part of our family’s DNA so to speak, and I learned by example from my parents.

Being part of a creative family where we were taught to use our talents and encouraged to ALWAYS love others, regardless of race, status or differences.

having the professional opportunities I’ve had… someone gave me an opportunity and I’ve always been grateful for that and that’s made me want to do the same for others.

As I mentioned earlier, the church leader who didn’t believe in God — that impacted me for years in a negative way to the point I didn’t go to church for a long time and then when I did I didn’t really serve but just attended church and sunday school.

Challenges with my son having children out of wedlock and the pain that has caused our entire family… We have lived through things that I never in a million years thought would happen to use — those kinds of things happened to other people, not us — but through that we were blessed with 2 precious grandchildren and I empathize with people who have had issues with their children that have caused extreme pain (some even death) and hurts so deep in the heart that you can’t possibly endure without the love of Jesus Christ.

Many financial struggles — most which we caused ourselves, but through those struggles God has been faithful to provide even when I don’t think I realized at the time it was Him who was the provider… He has extended grace and mercy to us so many times that I can’t possibly extend the same to others.
