S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Ruth Jefferson for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Tbh, I really enjoy working with people when it comes to matters of faith, even though to be honest, it scares me as much as holding a baby for the first time. I enjoy leading Bible studies and discussing difficult or challenging concepts with others. I also enjoy getting the opportunity to help people to learn and to learn alongside them.

#2 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
One of the things that I honestly believe is that a person’s greatest weakness, when turned on its head, can actually be that same person’s greatest strength. I think that I am good at encouraging others precisely because of this. Because I can see the challenges that others go through and the way that they may impact the life of those others, I am also able to take a look at the way that those challenges may be used to work for the good of others and also encourage them in that way. Tbh, it also just breaks my heart when I see other people sad or disheartened, and I enjoy being able to be there for them and to help them see the light at the end of the tunnel. The fact I have also gone through my own challenges helps me to empathize with others more effectively.

#3 Gift, Administration (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy helping to increase the efficiency of projects and systems. Part of what this means is that I contribute to the projects and systems in which I am involved, and also that I delegate responsibilities where necessary.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love music; writing music, singing music, performing music, etc. In this same vein, I also enjoy just general writing and occasionally research if it’s a topic that I’m incredibly passionate about.

2. I love making things better and more effective and developing theories plans and systems to accomplish this goal specifically as it relates to communications.

3. I love cooking and having people over to eat the food that I prepare and creating spaces where people can connect.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I love to work with people who have a passion for something and want to accomplish a goal and helping those people to meet that goal or even exceed it, so whoever that is, I can work with well and enjoy it…it helps if it’s for a project that I’m passionate about.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Let’s talk about excitement. Let’s get people connected and incredibly passionate about the goals that have been set. Let’s mobilize people. Let’s get stuff done. Let’s make sure that the systems that we have in place are running as efficiently as they possibly can. Let’s make sure that there are managers for all of the ministries at church and that everyone knows what their roles are and how those roles fit together and why they are important. Let’s make everything feel more like a family and more cohesive. And let’s have more small groups so that people get to know each other better. Let’s have more music during the service so that we can worship God more and so that we are actually more guest friendly. And about that, we need a way to measure guest experiences, what they will be thinking about the services, any challenges that they may be facing, any ways that we can serve them that haven’t been considered before. Let’s talk about how we can train more people so that they feel like they can effectively share God’s Word with people who haven’t heard it yet and teach them how to look out for those opportunities to do so. And honestly, this is an area where I can improve too, so I need some training with this as well. Definitely, it would be awesome to have something with like apologetics and Bible Basics and maybe a small group where we can encourage each other as we are actively reaching out to those in our lives and in our communities / Midtown. All of everything.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Coming to the WELS

Serving students as an undergrad and helping them in their times of need / being able to give to others and put myself aside, but at the same time seeing how God took care of me during that time.

Meeting some of the pastors in the WELS / Coming to CrossWalk

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Family…not going to say more

The medical difficulties that I’ve faced pretty much my whole life

Experiencing hypocrisy within churches as I was growing up.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would hold a gospel summit and probably also even open it up so that it could be a valley wide event.

4. I would pay for Midtown to have a kids / youth ministry that was inviting to people from all walks of life throughout the community, so that kids and youth from all of those walks of life could hear and believe the gospel and learn about Jesus’ love for them so that they grow up knowing that God loves them and that they can go throughout life with that confidence

5. I would start my own business where I could use my skills and my knowledge of communications to work with businesses and non-profits, but most especially churches to help them to reach their target audiences. I would help them to accomplish the goals that they have set for their ministries so that they can be part of a larger net, helping to share the gospel with those people who are in the world around them. I really enjoy being part of that kind of work, and it would be so cool to get back into work with evaluations and training people to more effectively reach their goals, but also really to help train up other people so that the work that they do can continue on even as time progresses and people change or get called to other things or other ways of serving God. That would be really cool. I would also use the business to develop various communication theories and models based on information gathered through studies and working with these organizations, so that they wouldn’t have to use information as a one-size-fits-all salve, but could instead use a model specifically created for the type of work that they’re wanting to do and to which God has called them.
