S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Jen Kirby for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I encounter individuals who have wandered from the church and help them to better understand the why of God. I also help my small group and a group of teenagers to know truths from the Bible
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I bring two kids, now teenagers, whose parents do not know God to church as the grandparents and their friends felt I would be best to help them understand the Bible. None of their children know Jesus despite one couple sending their kids to Christian school and the other couple bringing their kids to church each weekend. Anyway the two teens I bring still want to go to church and I have been able to convince a few of their friends to stay. They do not like big church though.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I recently completed a masters degree in Business Administration and spent a long time working in industry as an engineer. Administrative work is something I know well.
[H]eart
1. I like to spend time with God, reading his word and praying. I like quiet time.
2. I love to spend time chatting with other people, like in a coffee shop, or after a sports event.
3. I am a person that seeks knowledge, adventurous. I like to do new things. I like to solve detailed and complex problems. I also like sports, although I do not do this enough. I like to travel.
I like to work with adults and teenagers. I have not done well with children. Seniors is another possibility as I do spend some time with my neighbors who are seniors. I have also spent time with immigrants that I work with, helping them to settle into Canadian life.
I am passionate about the local church; that it be reflect how God intends it to be. I actually get very annoyed when it does not reflect God’s character. I am passionate that people know the Holy Spirit and how the Spirit operates in our lives.

[A]bilities
I am unemployed former oil and gas engineer. I just finished my MBA and I am seeking new work opportunities
I was a senior project engineer coordinating the design of natural gas facilites and tailings pond remediation (environmental project). I was a design engineer in marine fabrication. I have done large scale project controls, and coordinated meeting with small groups of people. (about 30 people)
I have a bachelor of science, and a degree in mechanical engineering. I am a registered engineer. I also completed my masters in business. My bachelor of science degree allowed me to take courses in new testament theology, which was later focused at Regent college. However, Regent thought I was best suited to work in the market place with environment and energy.
Science. wheels and levers. (I am working on this presentation) I presented on the use of aluminum in tailings ponds due to the complex chemicals. I presented one class on river dwellers (prophecy). I may present my applied reseach project on environmental policy as it applies to business. I have also taught in the children’s ministry, but this was not my thing as I did not connect with the children and I do not do drama at all. Most teaching at FAC outside the preaching involves some type of artistic expression: Drama, art, music. I have none of these “artistic” skills. I did do well wit teaching the children during a mission trip in 2006.
Myself. I am not sick, I have no mental health issues. I am well educated. I love people and want to spend time with them.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.
Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility
Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.
Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace
[E]xperience
I grew up with Christianity, and committed to Jesus at 12. I stopped attending church in my teenage years during my parents divorce. I searched for Jesus in University, studying and here I learned about the Holy Spirt. I attended alpha n my early 30’s after my brother went, along with my sister in law who attended an evangelical Christian church. I started going to church after alpha. Shortly after this I moved to Calgary and was baptized shortly after moving to Calgary at Center Street Church. I decided to make FAC home in 2006. This seems like a very legalistic response for me. I grew up with the faith, so I have always known God, he just keeps drawing me into a deeper relationship with him and his church
First Sackville Presbyterian Church – I taught traditional Sunday School for a couple of years as a teenager. (13 to 14 years old).
Grace Chapel – Halifax, NS Attended , alpha, small group. I led a singles ministry here. (2002-2004)
The Agora. Halifax, NS. (Mennonite Brethren) I attended church here regularly, attended small groups and went on retreats. I provided a house for their men’s ministry, Marc Randall’s evangelism ministry (https://cten.org/missionary/marcrandall/) and the Agora’s work with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship IVCF (2004 – 2007)
FAC – Cornerstone Café – volunteer and team leader. 2005 -2008FAC Children’s ministry – large group teacher, also a children’s ministry shepherd (grade 1 & 2 girls)
I stopped after grade 2 as Anakin who is special needs required my full attention before and after service.
I bring a friend’s grandkids to FAC with me. The boy now 12 is special needs and so is the mom. The boy is challenged to pay attention and has trouble reading.
I went on amission trip in 2006 to Nicaragua and supported the Nicaragua mission team.
I brought a work colleague to ALPHA and we both served in Harvest
I went to Israel with Pastor Scott, Tara, Pastor Ray and Dee.
First Alliance Church Singles – When it was FACS . Helped with the organizing of events and shared with the large group once or twice.
FAC small group leader – one year I led a group of singles and singles again – mostly divorced people. (not my thing as I have never been divorced)
Cornerstone café volunteer – I occasionally volunteer with Michele in
Harvest Ministries – I have volunteered with Harvest on the Saturday night supper team and the Sunday Brunch team.
At FAC, I decided to devote 2016 to prayer. Going to the wed night prayer and serving with Becky on the prayer retreat. in 2018, I helped with the prayer retreat setup. I also helped Becky with the river dwellers study in the fall of 2017.
I decided to lead a small group again with the Explore God series in May / June of 2018.
Exploring Jesus in University through the new testament theology. The Jesus in the Bible is not at all like what I learned in Church growing up.
Learning about the Holy Spirit and attending the Agora which was partnered with a local Pentecostal church. My spiritual gifts have changed. Teaching has come out on top. Years ago teaching was more buried. One of my main spiritual gits is wisdom (perspective), which is not addressed by this assessment.
I am an engineer. A woman in a difficult and challenging field that is male dominated. I am a career woman, I focused much on my life as a career woman which enabled me to fund the work of other people in ministry. I loved the engineering work I did in environmental reclamation for Alberta’s tailings ponds. My Regent advisor Rikk Watts says he would not put me in the local church full time. He says he can take many people and build them up to serve the local church, but he could not build up anyone to solve Alberta’s environmental problems. (The people of Alberta do not even realize these environmental problems exist) However, I am not an environmental engineer, I am a mechanical engineer.
My parents divorce, This was a challenging experience which as impacted me both negatively.. I had to do a lot of work to move on form this difficult life experience. I call it positive as without this negative experience, I would not be who I am. Despite being in church, my parents were two people with hard hearts who never learned to soften their hearts until they were divorced. The church is more accepting of Christians who divorce than when my parents divorced in the ate 1980’s. When My dad remarried, things improved. My stepmom has more of a holy spirt focus. My dad surrendered to Jesus after the divorce.
I never married. When I started attending church in my early 30’s in Halifax, I strongly felt that God “wanted me to be single for a while.” Prior to returning to church, in my 20s I drifted from one long term relationship with one guy to another long term relationship with another guy. Perhaps this should be a positive experience since it is from God. But it is extremely difficult to be in an evangelical church that focuses on marriage and family ministries. I felt the FACs singles ministry was about “finding that partner.” Despite the mission statement, the group was not dedicated to living life as a single person. Instead the singles group was about meeting others who were single. There is nothing wrong with a singles group that helps single people to meet other singles, it just was not for me. As I never married, I never had children and I am sensitive to people who do not care about their children. Although I never married, this does not mean I want to stay single forever.
Being laid off after being a career woman for 20 years has impacted my life. Despite studying and taking and completing an MBA, I am not sure what is next for me. I am no longer able to give financially to the church, but instead give a little more through my time. I loved the engineering work I did in tailings reclamation. Then the Alberta provincial government’s rules changed and tailings reclamation is no longer required. After completing the MBA, I am looking at starting a cleantech company to solve the problem of greater than 12 hour energy storage which will allow renewables (wind and solar power) to be brought into the oil and gas process.
