S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you John Paul McLaughlin for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Serving (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy helping people. I don’t necessarily enjoy leading people, but I am more content being a background servant in most cases.

#2 Gift, Administration (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy tasks. I am energized by actually completing goals that have been planned out.

#3 Gift, Teaching (65%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I believe I am able to break things down in a way that people can understand them. I don’t claim to be a great communicator by any means but I believe I have a gift of helping others understand biblical truths for their own lives.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I enjoy spending time with my family. Spending time with my wife and son brings me the most joy

2. I enjoy exercising. I feel it helps me with discipline and routine.

3. I enjoy playing music. Music has a way of helping me express myself and the primary way I connect in worship to God.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I enjoy working with people who are like-minded. I would say that I prefer working with people around my age who I can most relate to.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I am most concerned for things that I don’t have much experience in. Kids ministry/Youth Group are things I’m not gifted in so I guess I am never sure where they should go. I am most excited for our partnerships with the schools/city to see how we can work together.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Grew in church and came to Christ when I was 5, but let’s be honest, I had no idea what I was doing. I think I first understood what I was saying yes to when I was in youth group around 13-14 yrs old. Although I would say I understand the gospel better now better than I ever had in the past.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Grace Assembly, Syracuse NY, worship & youth, 4 years

Eastern Hills Wesleyan, Buffalo NY, Young Adult Leader, 2 years

Lumber City Church, NT NY, Worship leader & Executive Pastor, 6 years

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

I think my childhood upbringing had a lot to do with how I have matured over the years. My parents taught us the gospel from a very young age

Being a part of Fazeshift. I think being involved with other men my age that were following Christ had a huge impact

Marriage. It has shaped who I am by being so close to someone for so many years. I don’t think I’d be the person I am without my wife

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Being passed over a job for the first time in my life was a hard experience. I think it really was a positive in the end but I struggled for a while with the rejection.

I had a small falling out with my father about 5-6 years ago and it affected our relationship for a while. It took a good amount of time to be reconciled but eventually we did.

Struggling in my marriage has greatly impacted me and given me a new appreciation for others struggles

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To see the the church of WNY completely saturate the area with the gospel.

4. Have more kids!

5. Become shredded 😉
