S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Nora Jean Niswonger for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.
Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable
Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.
Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline
[E]xperience
I grew up in the church. I don’t remember the exact moment that I came to Christ. I remember rededicating my life to God in adolescence or youth at a summer camp meeting. I went through what I call “my stupid years”. Most of high school and early adulthood. I was definitely NOT living for God. It wasn’t until after I had my 3 children in the late 80’s/early 90’s that I felt God calling me back to the church. I started by just taking my oldest. I sat in his classroom until I felt comfortable. Then I went to Sunday school myself. I eventually took all three kids. They were raised in the church, but not practicing now. That fact is VERY heavy on my heart.
It started out as East State Street Church of God, and is now (In a new location.) Faith Community Church of God (Anderson University) in Huntington, Indiana. I have lead small groups and Sunday school classes for children and adults. I have served on various committees and boards over the years.
Getting to know others in small group settings. When I first went back to church, after my stupid years, I thought that I was the scum of the earth and everyone there was perfect and had no problems. I found out differently in the small group setting.
God showing me that I have a gift from him. My ex-husband was not a christian. He gave me ALL kinds of grief for my activities and involvement in the church. I was ready to stop everything. I shared that with our choir director one night after practice. I told him I didn’t give anything to the church. At the time I felt like a sponge, and that every sermon was for me. He said, “Are you kidding. Do you know how much you encourage others?” I told him that was no big deal. It was the next week in the study of Romans in Bible Study Fellowship that I read encouragement is a gift from God. WOW! I HAVE a gift from God? Isn’t it awesome how He does that? 🙂
As an adolescent my other told me that she hated me, and wished that I was never born. If she hadn’t had a miscarriage I wouldn’t be on the face of the earth.
I remember, after the divorce, my father pulling away from me. It wasn’t until in my 30’s, after my mother had passed, that my father told me my mother’s mother and her sister’s came to him and told him to be VERY careful how he interacted with me. I might go back to my mother and say something innocent, and she might use it against him so he couldn’t see me any more. I thought he didn’t love me any more. He was trying to protect our relationship.
I’ve been married twice, and both of my husbands cheated on me. The first husband was VERY verbally abusive and occasionally physically abusive so it was almost a relief. With my second husband… I was still madly in love with him. Maybe to a fault. He TOTALLY blindsided me.
Wrapping It Up
The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?
1. My Relationship with GOD
2. My Relationship with Others
- Putting Your Spouse First
- Your Kids Second
- Everyone Else After those
3. Travel to Haiti on a regular basis and work in the orphanage my church sponsors there, and the surrounding community.
4. If I could put it into words… I would want to share my story with other hurting women.
5. I would anonymously pay bills for people in need.
