S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Ken Poncelow for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Giving (96%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
God has blessed Karen and I with great retirements. We also invested well when we were young and avoided debt. We lived so that we could give. Additionally, we retired young enough that we still have enthusiasm and energy to serve.

#2 Gift, Administration (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Throughout my career I received literally hundreds of hours of training in administration, leadership, management, and planning. My bachelors degree is in public administration and my masters is in organizational communication. I managed multi-million dollar budgets and supervised large numbers of employees. I am a certified planner and a planner for the Federal Emergency Management Administration. GOD blessed me through my career with wonderful experience, training, and education. It all belongs to HIM.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Throughout my career, I saw things that no person should have to see. I experienced first hand the pain that Satan bestows on the earth. For over forty years I worked with the broken people, broken relationships, broken dreams, and broken families that are left in the wake of not knowing the love and grace of JESUS CHRIST. I believe in the mission statement of Journey. I AM going to heaven and WILL take as many people with me as I can.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. My relationship with JESUS CHRIST. (especially the music in worship)

2. My wife. The precious jewel of my life. She makes me whole and makes me a stronger Christian every day.

3. Being allowed to serve along other Christians in a spirit filled church with a heart for the lost.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I enjoy working with everyone. Our older ladies in Fish and Loaves are refreshing and well grounded. The Goss boys and the Lopez kids are fun to be around and have lots of energy. The young ones in Sunday School just wear me out.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Our food ministry has taken off. People that eat together, grow together. It’s a great way to serve and love folks.

I am concerned that our church will not be prepared for the jail ministry if GOD blesses it like I think he will. The great deceiver can use that ministry in many ways if we are not prepared.

I am concerned that we don’t have a better method/plan for working with new Christians.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I became a Christian at 12 years of age at Camp Como. I was raised in a Christian home.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Preached in numerous churches part time in Hays, KS and in Greeley.

Karen and I were youth group leaders at West View Church of Christ in Greeley for several years.

Karen and I were house parents to 12 at risk kids for a year at Cookson Hills Christian Children’s Home in Syracuse, KS in 1979.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Marrying Ms. Karen

The love and support of my parents.

My career.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

The line of duty death of Deputy Sam Brownlee. A tough SWAT deputy in full gear sobbing on my shoulder (Sam was the best man at his wedding.)

A family that lost their children and a niece and nephew in a cave in of their silage pit. They used a backhoe to dig out the children in an attempt to save them and caught their daughter by the arm. The horror of the father holding his little girl and realizing what had happened.

Watching divorced or divorcing parents making children exchanges in the parking lot of my office and my realizing the trauma that that child is experiencing through no fault of their own and the family that realizes for the first time that a family member they have loved and trusted has violated their child.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Go to the mission field or exchange places with missionaries home of furlough.

4. Use all that I own to further GOD’s kingdom.
