S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Kate Harris for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Love to share spiritual truths with my daughter and see her growth. She’s responsible for her relationship with Jesus, but I love setting the stage to help her grow.

2. Giving to causes that help bring encouragement or a better life to people in at risk circumstances.

3. Family … encouraging them or being there for them when they need help.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Children, the older senior citizens

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I’m concerned that teachings are not expository, straight from the Bible. I’ve been in several churches where the teaching was expository and that’s when I grew the most in my own faith and walk.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I asked Jesus into my heart at age 16 while at a national conference with Youth for Christ. I was a good kid, from a good home who hadn’t realized that faith in Jesus was necessary to be a Christian. I had a strong Youth for Christ leader who both modeled and shared with words what it really meant to be a Christian in every interaction and I grew in my new faith. He was Jesus with feet.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Trinity Baptist Church
Muncie, IN
Children’s Church Director and class volunteer, AWANA leader
5 years?

University Christian Church
Muncie, IN
Sunday School volunteer, VBS volunteer
4 years?

First Friends Church
Canton, OH
Children’s Sunday School , CLC teacher, VBS teacher
6 years?

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Making a home move back to the city where my church and support system were after the death of a friend. It changed the trajectory of my life and my faith grew by leaps and bounds.

Travelling overseas … it opened my eyes to different cultures.

A young single adults group when I was in my 20’s that organically came about. We didn’t set out to, but we lived in true community. We’d initiate our own Bible studies, serve in the church together, be there for each other when crisis happened, and had fun. And hardly any of it happened inside the church, but it was more “Jesus community” than I’ve found before or since.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

The death of a very close friend when I was 23. It was unexpected, and rocked my world and my faith. I re-evaluated my life and made some life-impacting decisions as a result that gave a different direction to my life.

Working for the church (and other non-profits) when we had a small business. Too much to list …. but it was disheartening to see how people who called themselves Christians would treat us when we were trying to help them accomplish their goals. And yet, on Sunday they’d be all smiles like they hadn’t spoken in an un-Christ like manner only days before. I learned churches has a dark underbelly 🙁

The death of my father. It was unexpected and I felt like I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye. It changed me. And on this side of it now, my compassion for those who have lost someone close is so much more.
