S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Kimberly Berg for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Mercy Showing (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have always been someone who gives mercy and deeply feels the pain of others. The question I’ve asked myself lately is am I feeling the pain of others or am I feeling the love of the Father for them…I think it’s both. At home is where I struggle with this…easier to show mercy to those outside of the home.

#2 Gift, Serving (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love to help provide for the needs of others. I like for them to know that the Father wants to do kind things and I try to follow His lead on what to step in to. It’s great that I’m married to a person who helps to reign that it.

#3 Gift, Administration (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’ve always seen myself as a gap-filler and I fill that I’ve often been called to be the person who helps others reach the goals that the Father has placed in their lives. If you give me a task, I will do it to the best of my ability every time, sometimes to my deficit.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Connection with others…I love learning people’s names and hearing their stories…making them feel welcome and seen. I love praying for them and just letting them know the Father is here.

2. Hard things do not scare me. I don’t mind the messiness of relationship and am not turned away by issues. I just would like to dive in to more training on how to effectively help others overcome these things…counseling…freedom.

3. Having others in my home…somewhere that’s safe and comfortable to talk through and be an example of how the Father is working within families. Sound, worship, cooking, lots of kids, playing.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I’m really not biased towards an age group, if they are in need and I am trained up in how to best serve them.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I’m drawn to fringy people…those who don’t feel seen or important within the local church…those who have a voice and don’t feel free to use it. This could include care ministry (sick or in need), women’s ministry, or anywhere there is a need.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was 16 years old and was experiencing a great deal of arguing and tension in my home. My Stepdad and I have always struggled to get along. Even now, we are not close and being around him causes me anxiety. I had gone to church with my grandmother pretty regularly, Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist, and was dating a boy whose family was very involved in our local Methodist church. After a huge blowup with my Dad, I was crying in my room alone and felt like God was literally the only person who could help me feel better about where I was. That started a glitchy several years of me trying to figure out all of the things about Him on my own. I’ve just grown in my relationship with Him as I’ve had different experiences and He’s brought different friendships in to my life.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

The Methodist Home for Children & Youth, which is in Americus, GA. I was there for 10 years, spending 2 years as a Child Care Counselor (House Parent) and then transitioning in to the first Program Manager position for the remainder of my time there.

3DM in Pawley’s Island, SC. I worked there for about 6 months doing admin for the organization as a whole…booking flights, renting cars, and typing. Outside of employment, I supported the ministry in any way that I could.

I have served with Youth and in the nursery at a few churches throughout my history. I served in the BSU, the Wesley Foundation, and the Presbyterian Student Center throughout my 4 years of college.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

I didn’t know that it was discipleship at the time, but at The Methodist Home, I sat under a supervisor, Corinne Simmons, who has impacted my life greatly. She helped me to grow in to a confident leader. She gave me hard truth and showed me what it looked like to be humble, compassionate, and to lead with grace…looking at each person under me as an individual.

Living in Pawley’s Island was probably top 3 hardest times of my life. I lost myself completely and have had to let the Father re-mold me in to who He envisions me to be today. I’m still learning, growing, becoming more confident, believing that He will equip me for what He’s called me to do. Without that experience, I wouldn’t have been able to let go of who I thought I needed to be…I used to look back at the old Kim a lot and long for her.

Marrying Blake Berg…He is my person, my friend, a major encourager. Blake tells me truth, whether it be positive or negative. He is my biggest fan. I have no doubt that he loves me and wants what is best for me.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Being diagnosed with Major Depression…this was something you can’t explain to someone unless you’ve gone through it…it’s irrational and debilitating. It has allowed me to be able to share what helped me with numerous women.

Being the mother of a child who has experienced some identity issues and would be considered high maintenance…this has opened many doors for prayer and conversation with other moms and parents.

Being someone who has been a gap filler for a long time, who has had to depend on the Father to give me outlets to serve and work through caring for others in creative ways, while still being passionate and excited about where I am currently assigned.
