S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Ken Slaven for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Teaching (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love to teach, and believe that God has given me this ability.

#2 Gift, Administration (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Not a passion, but I understand the importance for ministries to be efficient, and believe that I have helped in this area. Delegation is difficult for me, and I see the same tendency in most of our leadership.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (65%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I feel that I can do it when I have the opportunity, but I am not always actively seeking those opportunities. I get very distracted by tasks.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love my family, and it is an amazing honor when I get to serve our Lord with them.

2. I love to play music, and help to lead God’s people in praise!

3. I love when someone “gets it” after teaching, or having them participate in a study I have helped with.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

It depends on the type of work. It is fulfilling to serve the elderly and those who cannot do tasks for themselves. I love to work with children and teens. I have been blessed to help with teens as they learn to serve.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Sound biblical teaching, inspirational praise music. I love the experience of the El Salvador trip. I am interested in church safety and security. I love the Tonto trip with the high school students.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in a Presbyterian Church, but believed that there had to me more to Christianity than what I experience. I went to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes conference and gave my heart to Christ.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I served in Junior High and High School ministry at my home church in Orange. I worked as a youth minister in a small church in Del Mar (18 months), I worked for a High School Para church organization (Campus Life 9 months), I have helped with music, projects, children and teen ministries here at VCCC since 1989 there have been seasons of different emphasis during that time.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My initial youth pastors that I served under. I learned a lot from them.

My marriage and children.

My work as a firefighter.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Struggle with different areas while as a youth pastor and working for the Para church organization.

Saw a lot of suffering as a firefighter.

Firefighting career didn’t end as I would have liked. I was asked by my boss to retire.
