S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Lauren Chun for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Mercy Showing (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This makes sense. Serving the underserved and unwell has always been a passion of mine, and is a large part of why I chose my career path. In the past, I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of building relationships with the poor and the sick, and issues of poverty, criminal justice, global health, etc. are very interesting to me. I think growing in my understanding of the brokenness of the world, while also internalizing that all of these people are image bearers of God has helped change my understanding of the ways I can serve others significantly. Most of this growth happened through living in Philadelphia and San Francisco (my life was pretty sheltered back in Alaska).

#2 Gift, Teaching (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’m not sure I’m a gifted teacher, but I’ve always enjoyed the pursuit of learning, and attempting to pass on what I learn to others around me. In college, I was very involved with teaching / leading small groups; however, I haven’t been doing this since graduation. These days, most of the “teaching” in my life is directed toward my roommates and my younger sister… Given my place in the church, I don’t really feel there is anyone I am currently able to teach.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Honestly, not sure about this one. I think I try to encourage those around me, and also exhort my Christian friends/roommates; however, I wouldn’t say I’m especially gifted or charismatic in this. I consulted my roommate, and she thinks this is accurate. I can see that I have definite tendencies to challenge others in their faith, particularly when they seem to be wavering or straying. This is definitely more of a recent development. Before I graduated, I had definite non-confrontational tendencies, but have been working on changing that.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was raised in a Christian household, and knew Christ at an early age. This said, my understanding of God is continually deepening / growing.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Small group leader / freshman ministry lead – Penn Cru, Philadelphia, 2 years

Small group leader / interfaith ministry representative – Renewal Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, 2 years

Children’s ministry volunteer – Christ Church SF, San Francisco, 1 year

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

High school youth conference – first time consciously understanding the deeper implication of the gospel in my own life

College fellowship – relationships built there and the pastoral care received made a huge impact on who I am today, and my growth as a Christian

Living in SF – being near family, joining Christ Church, and living in this city have helped grow my understanding of what it means to serve others in every day life. Also feel like the challenge of being a Christian in SF has forced me to be more firm in my convictions.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Dad’s deployment to Iraq when I was in junior high.

Many family illnesses during college.

Major family conflicts / learning more about how broken my family is.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Pursue to serve God and the underserved through my career.

4. Grow in boldness in my faith / become more comfortable with sharing my faith with non-believers.

5. It would be great to be able to always be involved with serving my church community (but worry about how that will be with school).
