[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I accepted the Lord as Saviour and got baptised when I was 16 years old. However my real faith journey began three years later at the age of 19 when I really started to pursue an active relationship with God. It was at this time that I began to experience God as friend and companion, an ever present help, a guide and a source of comfort. It was also at this time that I began to spend more time in the Word, started to grow in my understanding and experience of worship and also began to identify God’s hand at work in various situations that I encountered. For the next 19 years as a member of a local church fellowship I served God through various ministries and in various capacities. During this time I was also active in Bible Study, Sunday School and at various points small groups. At the age of 38 that is when I REALLY STARTED TO ENCOUNTER & EXPERIENCE God as Saviour, as Redeemer , as Sanctifier, as FATHER, as Lover of my Soul as He began the process of outworking Ezekiel 36:26 in me, giving me a new heart and a new spirit, removing the stubborn and stony heart and giving me a tender and responsive heart. It is in the last 4 years that I have come into greater wisdom and revelation about God’s grace, Jesus’ death and what the shedding of His blood means for me, the process of brokenness, healing and restoration, the refiner’s fire, God’s genuine and enduring love for me, His ultimate purpose for me as He molds me into His image and likeness, the Holy Spirit and His relational role in my life and soooooo much more. God is becoming REAL for me. I am nor finally beginning to truly walk in the joy, peace, contentment and hope that He intended for me to walk in, the abundant life Jesus came to give me. He has done a root level heart work in me and continues to do so, uprooting pride and its companion fear along with all its other “compadres”. I have released the need to be perfect , I am learning to apply more grace to myself. I am embracing the greatest commandment to love the Lord my God, love myself and to love others. This now has a totally new meaning for me. I am truly a work in progress, learning to surrender to God’s process with the assurance that He is a Good God, He is faithful, He is for me and He is wirking ALL things for my good and ultimately for His Glory. That He withholds no good thing from me and His plan really is to prosper me and not to hram me, to give me hope and a future, but this is all a process. I now believe that God has given me a special grace for the PROCESS and is trusting me to take me deeper so He can take me higher. He is doing much of the root level work in me, the foundation work so that when I encounter trouble in this life, which He has so mercifully warned me of, I can have peace knowing that He has overcome it all and that means that I have overcome it all. Now as He provides opportunities for me to be discipled He is simultaneously using the gift He has given me to help me to encourage others. My God is GOOD. He is faithful. He is for me. And I am His.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To help others to live a MUCH healthier Spiritual, Emotional and Relational life than I have lived for most of my life, sharing my life lessons with a view to help them better maneuver these aspects of life

4. To be part of a family unit that God uses to positively impact on family life in Jamaica for the benefit of marriages, parents and children and by extension communities. This would include adopting or fostering as many children as God sees fit and to pour all that God has been pouring into me over the last 4 years into them, helping to prepare them to be Kingdom men and women

5. To create a ministry that uses a multiplicity of avenues to provide information that by the Spirit of God provides Revelation , Leading to the Transformation of lives. The basis of this would be the fact that God’s word says that “the people perish for lack of knowledge/vision”, so this ministry would be an AUTHENTIC and OPEN and HONEST place for people to come to have God’s wisdom and training to be imparted to them to deal with life issues that traditional church does not seem to address. A ministry where people are taught the things that some would say cannot be taught (like parenting) but which i believe with my whole heart NEED to be taught. Yes, some things cannot be taught BUT some things CAN be taught if we take the time to allow God to show us how.
