S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Liz for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Making other people smile/Encouraging/Teaching

2. Art (Music, Writing)

3. Being around my people (my friends, my family)

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I fit in in most groups. I can establish relationships relatively quickly. But generally it would be girls between the ages of 16 and 30 or guys between ages 20 and 25.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I want Jesus to be real for people within their own context. Because I know what its like to live life without him and its not at all as vibrant as life with him. Whatever I can do or wherever I can fit in order to help that happen, I will do so.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in a Christian home, went to Christian school, and regularly attended church. I always had God in my mind, but I spent a lot of time being the good older sister, the perfect daughter, the good friend, with good grades and good reputation because that’s what I thought being a Christian meant. But it was never enough when I faced the tough times. It always seemed like everyone around me had a stronger faith than I did, that pulled them through the dark and inspired them in the silence. Even though I was doing everything right, God didn’t seem to be paying any attention to me. I felt entirely alone, alone through Justina passing away, abandoned as people moved out of my life, and insufficient in all of the roles that I played a part in. Even though I was good in everyone else’s eyes, I was not good enough in my own. I questioned my own identity and worked harder as a result of it, trying to fill the hole that I had within, by being what everyone else needed, which was difficult as a lot of my people were going through difficult times all at one time. In moving to Ottawa, I left all of that behind and just tried to exist as I wanted to. It’s not like I re-invented myself entirely, I just tried not to think as much as I used to (lol not a habit you can break). Something was still missing though. I church-hopped for most of first and second year, but I finally settled in MyChurch because there was a collection of people that seemed to be on fire for God in the way that I could never achieve when I tried before. So I was intrigued. And now I’m here. I figured out that there is grace for me in my mess, grace for me in my insecurity and grace for me when I have no idea what to do next. I’ve finally settled into who God says that I am and have started to heal and figure out all of the rest as I go along. And it’s cool.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Immanuel Baptist Church – Kids/Worship/Events/Youth/Marketing (Toronto, Ontario, 10+ years)

Peoples Christian Academy – Worship/Student Leadership/Drama/Mentoring/Events (Toronto, Ontario, 10+ years)

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Moving out and coming to Ottawa and figuring out that I’m fundamentally still the same person that I was when I was struggling before. Figuring out that the struggles shaped me into someone that can have real influence for those that might go through the same things that I did. Figuring out that I’m not as much of a screw up as I thought.

My godparents teaching me music and writing when I was growing up. They taught me that art was a gift from God and that I could always find him in it and I could always talk to him through it.

Going to Mexico to build houses for families in grade twelve. I got to experience the country and see the joy that people had, even though they had so little. Seeing kids jumping around, chattering in Spanish, wanting to help me paint and show me their pets. Even though we always hear that there is more to life than all the junk and that life really is simple, being in a situation where the reality was right in front of me was wild

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My best friend disappearing to Europe after we graduated high school, after leading her family to believe that I was a bad influence in her life that led her to do terrible things and create all these problems for her family

Issues with my dad throughout childhood and high school.

Multiple friends (both my age and older) going through severe depression, self-harm, eating disorders, insomnia, family issues etc. all at one time and coming to me for support and advice even though I was twelve

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Travel and run the MCM tour and write music.

4. Since President of the World isn’t an option, Prime Minister would work

5. Develop Strategy for a company/organization with a good people-centered culture where I can make a difference (super ambiguous I know, but I’d be happy wherever, as long as the values are good)
