S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Lynn Pickering for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. [H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I have been working through a Christian based preschool curriculum with my daughter

2. I try to keep up the house well so my husband doesn’t have to worry about much outside his full time job and we can spend our free time having quality time as a family

3. I love spending time with friends, socializing my kids, and encouraging and learning from other moms

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I enjoy working with children. I feel as though I work well with women in the same stage of life as myself. I long for a friendship with an older Christian woman who can pour into me and guide me as I try to raise my children in the Lord. The recent passing of my last living grandmother made me wish I spent more time with the elderly

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Children’s ministry, my hope is for my children to be walking closely with the Lord before they go off to college (unlike myself, so they don’t make some of the same mistakes I made)

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in a Catholic home. We went to church every Sunday and I received all the sacraments but I never felt as though my faith was my own. When I left for college, I stopped going to church because no one was making me go. I tried finding fulfillment in partying but was left feeling empty. I didn’t understand my need for a Savior until attending a fall retreat through Campus Crusade during my sophomore year. I gave my life to the Lord during that retreat and tried to learn all I could about living my life for Him for the remainder of my time in college and with the campus ministry and the resources offer. While my walk has not always been perfect, I try my best. Since having kids, I have tried even harder to keep Christ at the center of my life and marriage and to teach my children about Him. Other distractions sometimes take priority when I know they shouldn’t, but I try.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Camp counselor, Summer’s Best Two Weeks WILD

High school ministry, McLean Bible Church Prince William

Nursery ministry, McLean Bible Church Prince William

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Campus Crusade for Christ small groups and discipleship

McLean Bible Church small group

My marriage and friendships from both churches we’ve attended

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Not understanding the gospel until my 20s despite growing up Catholic

Partying at Penn State and rooming with unbelievers while attending there as well as when I first moved to Virginia

Having difficulty transitioning from one to two children and leaving my full time job to stay home

  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Lead my children and family to Christ

4. Provide more of my time and money to those in need

5. Go back to school to get a masters in library science
