S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Jacquelyn (Lynn) Shuffler for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

1. Spending time with our granddaughters always beings joy!! Being there for them, letting them know how special they are, sharing our love for our Lord, offering words of encouragement, just spending time with them! Seeing the amazing adults our children have become and watching how they interact with the world is such a joy!!
2. I love my role as Lay Leader for the Harbor District. Getting to know the pastors in our district, having the opportunity to train and encourage the laity, being involved in the amazing work that goes on in our district…all bring joy!!
3. We love being a part of the choir at PVUMC. What a privilege to sing with so many amazingly talented people and to be such a small part of this. Watching the reaction of folks to special music is such joy. I find music running through my head all the time…even when I wake in the middle of the night!!
I love getting to know those who attend Celebrate Recovery, hearing their stories, loving on them, encouraging them, etc. I also love our Sunday School class and leading our small group. I guess I work mostly with those close to our age, while CR covers all ages. I find I’m really comfortable with all ages.
I definitely have a heart for the homeless and those suffering addictions! Anything involving these concerns and excites me.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.
Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline
Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.
Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable
[E]xperience
I “joined” the church and was baptized at age 12 but my passion for and love of my Lord moved from my head to my heart in my late 40’s. Since then I have continued to grow and have a passion for sharing my beliefs and love of my Lord with others.
Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher and Bible Study leader for many years at Rose Hill United Methodist Church
District Lay Leader of Harbor District (NC Conference) for past six years and Delegate to Jurisdictional Conference in 2016. Presently secretary for Conference Board of Laity.
Certified Lay Speaker in United Methodist Church for 20+ years.
Being married to a husband who shares my love for the Lord.
Participating in a Lay Servant Ministry weekend retreat at Camp Rockfish about 5 years ago.
Participating in Memory Work Tournament as a teenager where for four years I memorized 52 scripture verses each year and participated in local, district and state level competitions. I find these verses have stayed with me and formed a valuable background in my growth and study of the scriptures over the years.
A situation of my own making 30 years ago where I turned away from all I knew to be right and good. Fortunately I had a huge “following” who stuck with me and helped me turn back to where I should be.
A situation with a former member of a congregation where I was unfairly blamed for a preacher being moved and harassed for years over this. Actually has taken me a long time to be around this person without negative feelings.
