S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Macy for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. 1. I am a nerd for self-help books and educational resources. I have a thirst for knowledge & understanding on our human tendencies, mind & thought processes. I am a research hound and I enjoy learning an amazing new fact, research theory or technique to share. I love education!
2. I am a very disorganized person by nature so I live for finding organizational strategies that fit my lifestyle and my family. I used to love the hunt of a good find at a garage sale or thrift shop, but now I enjoy decluttering and giving value to what I already own.
3. I have recently started bird watching and have found joy in the time away from my family in solitude with nature – even when it’s just my backyard. The nerd in me loves the process of correctly identifying birds while the competitive side of me loves the documenting process. I have a life-long birding list that I hope gets me traveling when I’m an empty nester!
Kids are my people and moms are my tribe.
Church communications and family ministry are my biggest concerns at FOM. I would like to see best communications practices being used to provide clear & understandable content from our church. I would also like to see a congregational community that openly shares in joys & struggles. I’d like there to be educational guidance for parents and a children’s program that is set in faith formations to prepare our families to be faith-filled together.

[E]xperience
I was raised in a Christian home in an exclusively Mormon community. At an early age I learned to debate and defend my faith. By the time I was in 3rd grade, I was finally old enough to attend a week long summer camp. It was an event I looked forward to every summer because I was surrounded by other Christian kids and heavily influenced by college aged Lutheran Camp counselors. It was a time where I didn’t have to defend my beliefs but could instead be whoever I wanted to be for a week. I later earned employment at the camp as soon as I was old enough so I could escape for the entire summer. I frequently recall my memories of faith building there and my final summer working there was what I refer to as my “mountaintop high” as it is closest I’ve ever felt to God in my personal, spiritual journey. It is a summer moment that was a cornerstone moment in my faith.
Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton, ID: Puppeteer and Actor for children’s summer outreach program (several years), Acolyte (4 years), Sunday Worship Reader (4 years), Choir Member (several years).
Lutheran Camp Perkins in Stanley, ID: Housekeeping (4 summers), Assistant Cook (4 summers), Camp Counselor (1 summer)
St. John Lutheran Church in New Orleans, LA: Church Council Secretary (1 year), Stewardship Team Member (1 year), Youth Group Leader (started from scratch & handed off to another leader after 1 year), Youth Sunday School Teacher (1 year), VBS Crew Leader and Promotional Materials designer (1 year), Choir Member (2 years)
Fishers of Men Lutheran Church: Children’s Sunday School Teacher & Opening Leader, Children’s Ministry Team Member & Leader, Preschool Board Member, Preschool Parent, VBS Leader (1 summer),
Having the opportunity to continually witness to my previous boss and to be a small part in seeing her faith in God return. It was the first time as an adult that I felt it was OK to openly talk about my everyday faith and activities without having to curb my “church” references. From then on I realized my faith was not just for me but could also be used as a seed planted for someone else.
Being able to give birth to my first born naturally. I am fearful of pain and doctor interventions so I was amazed at what my body was capable of and the natural pain management threshold I was able to better understand. It gave me courage I never had experienced.
My entire childhood was filled with children’s ministry opportunities as my mother’s passion is children. We were involved in every Sunday School activity and outreach program. She has an amazing talent of connecting with & understanding children. She later became the Youth Group Leader when I was in high school. Her passion and enthusiasm greatly influenced my childhood, my faith walk and my own passion for connecting with children.
My first cross-country move from back-country Idaho to deep-South New Orleans. I had no job, no friends, no internet and had a habit of getting lost when driving around. I was immersed in a foreign culture as a newlywed. It took a whole year for me to find myself. It taught me to lean on my husband through thick & thin and that friendships can arise in the most unexpected places. New Orleans was a God moment experience that shaped my tolerances for people and to value the people around you.
Pregnancies lost have helped to weaken my control over my life and to give to God what is His. Those experiences taught me to seek inner peace and to value God’s creation.
A temporary move overseas to Shanghai brought me to my knees many times. Another move to a foreign country and culture had me in survival mode as a wife & mom. The experience really opened my eyes to living abroad and I returned with a new-found understanding for helping foreigners in our community find a place to feel settled.
