S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Cheryl (Sherry) Bodle for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Teaching (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have learned so much over the years from Bible College, from Temple University, and from talented people who know so much more than I do.

#2 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
God allows us to experience various types of life’s turmoil so that we can develop true sympathy for the suffering of others. Sympathy is okay as it helps us to experience and identify with suffering but hopefully, sympathy enhanced by education and experience changes to empathy which enables us to more effectively exhort and encourage people.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
When I think about how much God loves me, and how undeserving I am of that love, my heart nearly bursts with gratitude for Jesus’s redemptive work on the cross. I feel a compelling desire to share the gospel with others in order that they, too, may come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. To read and study God’s Word.

2. To study politics and foreign policy particularly as it relates to the Middle East.

3. To spend quality time with my family talking about the Lord’s work in our lives and in the world.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Having been a Child Evangelism Missionary for a summer after high school graduation, and having taught Weekday Religious Education in 5 public schools to 4th & 5th graders in Loudon County, VA (before it was declared illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court) and having been a foster parent for many years, I believe I love to work with children best. However, now that I am 73, I find that working with adults is more suitable.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I believe the time has come for churches to become more politically aware, and openly address in a non-partisan manner, issues which are likely going to affect believers lives in a more dramatic way than we have been accustomed to here in America. Believers will need to be more spiritually prepared to function in an increasingly hostile environment culturally and governmentally. We need to help people make Christianity more relevant to the daily lives of people–at home, in the workplace, in the church and in the civic arena.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was always thinking about God, even as a young child. When I was 15 I began dating a young man who took me to church every Sunday. Over a period of time, I felt the pastor’s sermons were speaking directly to me. One Sunday evening, I answered the call to step forward and I accepted Jesus as my Savior. It changed my life forever!

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Over the years, I have had very little formal ministry experience in a church other than attending church and taking part in normal church activities. My husband and I have moved several times during the years due to job relocation which made having a formal ministry difficult. I did teach Bible Study classes, organized a Junior Church, and established Counseling Encounter, Inc., a Christian pro-life counseling organization for women experiencing troubled pregnancies.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Attending Philadelphia College of Bible, 1963 – 1965

Graduating from Temple University (magna cum laude), Philadelphia, PA with degrees in Political Science and Early Childhood Education

Being a houseparent in the Paxton Memorial Children’s Home, in Loudon County, VA
Being a foster parent with Tressler Lutheran Social Services, Harrisburg, PA
Being a foster parent with Catholic Social Services, Philadelphia, PA

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Seeing the tremendous amount of suffering experienced by children living in dysfunctional families

My parents were divorced when I was 11 years old; I have brothers and sisters who have not seen each other for over 52 years.

Experiencing the ravages of drug addiction within my own extended family.
