S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Patti Edwards for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Teaching (62%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Interesting that I always thought I would be a teacher vocational but took a different career path and yet that path is essentially teaching/counseling

#2 Gift, Evangelism (56%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
A little surprised that this came up in my top three but then again, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel,” but I have come to realize that I share it best in a one-on-one or small group environment.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (50%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I would have thought this would have come up as #1…encouragement of others is always on my heart. I’ve been called a “golden retriever” by more than one person

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Growing spiritually, personally, and in various leadership roles at work, neighborhood, community and church

2. Coming alongside our adult children, encouraging them in their marriages and now in their parenting. Leaving a legacy of memories and faith (not funds.)

3. Helping others through their struggles – pointing them to Jesus

Other than my grandchildren – adults for sure

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in a liberal denomination but always had a deep understanding of God and the Gospel even as a child. When I was in high school, a born-again Christian challenged me with the question of, “If I was to die tonight, what would be the basis for me going to heaven” which caused me to pray to receive Christ as my personal savior.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Choir – all churches since youth

Leadership – youth group, Pastoral search, small group

Starting Point / Explore

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Bible teaching churches

Extended family spiritual growth and encouragement

Leadership role in a Christian company

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

In any marriage of 42 + years there have been struggles – ours is no difference, and yet we honored our commitment to God and to each other and have worked and grown through it

Our family has endured several major losses of teenager, young adults and adults not even 50 years of age so it has made me very sensitive to those struggles in others

Watching a close family member journey through deep depression has given me empathy

  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Create a life journal of memories, faith, & encouragement for each of our grandchildren

4. Participate in a marriage mentoring ministry
