S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Mike Wilson for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Teaching (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy sharing my knowledge on certain topics with others. Sometimes I know the subject matter very well and at other times I have only minimal knowledge.

#2 Gift, Giving (62%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am blessed that i enjoy a reasonably comfortable life and several years ago I began tithing. I don’t necessarily miss the money and it makes me happy to support my church.

#3 Gift, Mercy Showing (53%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
For 2 years I was a volunteer at Jesus for Juveniles. They were locked up in a minimal security and we tried to mentor them and serve breakfasts. I moved on to assisting with our GED mentoring program and have participated for about a year. I participate in Shoes of Hope every year also.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Fishing is my passion and I do it as often as I can.

2. Every Tuesday male neighbors participate in bocce in the morning and poker at night. It’s important to me to be there every week if i can.

3. I like to participate in Grace Church events. Over the years I worked at the 3rd Saturday giving away food, haircuts and prayer. A few times I helped pack shoe boxes to deliver overseas to poor and/or orphaned children. Shoes of Hope is another one of my favorites.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I enjoy working with dedicated church members who perform tasks that are in great need in our community. 30 and older is preferred.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

While I’m not sure of the funding needs of our missionaries, I imagine they need as much funding as they can get to spread the Good News.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I suffer from depression and was considering suicide. Through my thoughts an Angel said don’t do it; the devil wants your soul and those thoughts are coming from him.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

None

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Serving my country as a Naval Officer.

Receiving recognition at Wachovia for all of my hard work. I received several key promotions and a mentor there helped me achieve it all.

Setting up a scholarship fund at UNC-CH in the name of my parents after they died in their 50’s.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I’ve suffered through several periods of depression, some of them months long. While I would not wish this on anyone, I do understand the issues involved.

In 2007 I was convinced that my wife no longer loved me and asked for a divorce. That proved to be a very bad decision and I have deeply regretted it over the last few years.

My wife had an abortion around 1980 because she did not want children. I agreed with her position but since finding Christ I longer take that position. I believe in Right To Life today.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Through a Small Group, I’d like to help men of my age deal with their problems in life.

4. I’d like to be one of those who finds a solution to our “Gun Problem” in America.

5. Drugs are so prevalent. I wish I could be part of the solution.
