S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Matthew Doering for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Teaching (96%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Didn’t expect this yet also not surprised, I often come up with sermons in my head and just think “man if I was in a pulpit right now!” Sometimes I even will text a christian friend a whole book and they will be blown away and respond with something like “Preach it man!” I feel like other people don’t see and hear what I do when I read passages from the bible. I have also spent a great deal of time learning theology and interpretations. The word really comes to life when I study and dig, it feels as if I can see the structure the way the God worked through everyone from Adam all the way to the Apostles. And I see and understand the way God intended it to be written from a perspective that maybe others do not notice. If I read a verse and at the end it didn’t resonate with me then I just automatically have a moment where I think to myself there is no way this is written in the bible as a filler or random sentence, so I dive deeper, dissect, compare translations and start jumping around to different verses of the bible I know to try to solve this verse. Almost as if I had stumbled upon a missing puzzle piece and I need to find where it belongs. Which leads me deeper into a better sense of the word, plus a bunch of fun facts about verses others don’t typically notice. Plus there is a quote I like, “You Learn, what you Teach”. I love sharing with fellow believer’s, I just wish the people who have hardened hearts or have been corrupted by the world could hear and see what I see. I sometimes feel frustrated that other people don’t see what I see is happening all around, as if all of life is mere coincidence. God’s word just clicks with me. I see it! I hear it! I find it thrilling!

#2 Gift, Evangelism (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I wish I was better at this, I desire to be a more effective disciple. I have even read several books on being a disciple. It makes me literally sick to my stomach when someone I know and care for is not on God’s path or has unbelief/doubt, because without the knowledge of truth I do not see the point of even trying to live life in this world. Yet I feel a lot of the time that I am just a living testimony for people to just watch suffer & endure but never waver or faulter, and that is typically where people will approach me and tell me how I have impacted them and led them to Christ. Which I have recently been learning to be okay with, if that is God’s purpose for me, but I do talk to God (semi- jokingly) if you would just stop testing me and refining me I would have more time to share the good news with others. Most my time especially lately is spent alone on my knees in prayer. I see how God uses me as an instrument to those around me who are blind and deaf to him, displaying me to point glory to him. I am fully confident and cannot wait for the day that my ongoing testimony is going to bring salvation to my brother and both parents. I selfishly wish it were different though, because it is not easy to “consider my present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us” somedays I honestly just wish it was my last day here or Jesus would come down, I want to be in heaven and free from this world and what comes with it. Yet I deeply desire to make sure everyone I care for is also secure first, but for now I am in spiritual boot camp and I cling to the hope that if its not GOOD yet, then God is NOT DONE yet.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am not good at this. Yet! But I do it a lot! I’m grateful I have a couple people in my life who do the same for me, but I find it Ironic how I am the one doing it for others sometimes. I am working on finding a way to communicate it more gently and effectively, especially towards the more stubborn and hardened people. I have that approach where I just want to lock people in a room with a bible and tell them they cant come out until they are fully saved. I have difficulty approaching strangers though.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Ministering to my children. Protecting my wife and kids. Just dying to self daily.

2. Finding a way to impact people and open their eyes and ears. Really feeling led to design faith based apparel/clothing!

3. I have struggled finding Joy in this world. I have materials and possessions, I like indoor plants A lot I have over 75, books, vinyl records. But it is all meaningless at the end of the day, and it does nothing for me. I have only recently found true joy that can only come from God. I am not sure where that is leading me yet. But I am excited for it.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I don’t know if I have a preference. But in a perfect world, the people that want it. The people who are truly thirsty for the living water. I love a newborn christian all on fire and leaned in, craving to know more about this new inexplicable joy and feeling from finding Jesus.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Nothing brief about it. Pretty much name a sin or situation and I have dealt with it and seen victory or am dealing with it now and patiently waiting to receive victory. When my daughter was born it had a profound impact on my life the moment she came out of the womb, I never looked at life the same. I also feel God never gave me a choice, he just keeps pulling or leading (depending on the day I am having) further and further.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Greeter/usher Nappanee Missionary Church 6 months

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Overcoming drugs and alcohol abuse. The way God has sustained me seasons that I can’t even put into words how he did it.

Praying and waiting on God for his will in his perfect timing in fullness of faith, and seeing that it REALLY DOES work. And he really is more than able and more than willing.

Blessed with such an amazing and beautiful wife and children.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

The loss of my daughter and holding up my family in their grief. I do not have 2 other experiences worth noting, after that experience I don’t really see anything else as a problem personally but a life obstacle.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Praying and waiting on God to reveal/lead me into his true purpose for how I can make an impact for the Kingdom.

4. I want a job that serves the kingdom, not necessarily in a church setting.

5. Missionary trip for sure!
