Retired Music Teacher/ Elementary school substitute teacher.

Office (phone, book keeping, telemarketing, …. ) for a carpet dyeing and cleaning company franchise, sales and book keeping for a fireworks stand, cake decorating, graphic arts (doing the annual for the schools where I taught)

Play piano, sing, play the recorder (Renaissance flute), photography, cake decorating, puppetry, directing theater, editing video/ photo, and music files, making power points, killing plants (haha made you laugh 🙂 ), over obsessing on lesson plans (my husband says), making learning fun for children.

[E]xperience

I was brought up in a home that was at church every time the door was open. I learned to love God and Christ at an early age. I was sprinkled as a baby and chose to be baptised when I was at the University. I’ve never written out a “testimony” or thought through “how I became a Christian”. It has been who I am as long as I can remember. Preachers seem to keep being a part of my life: my Jr. High/High School boyfriend became a Church of Christ preacher, his best friend was the son of the local Church of Christ preacher and also became a preacher; my mother became a Methodist lay preacher; my brother was a Methodist preacher; my son in Germany started an English speaking congregation and when we went, he was a preacher. Following Christ in a dedicated way is part of my experience and heritage.

As an organist: Texas City, Texas- Methodist Church and Catholic Church. 1970-1975.

Bible Class Teacher: Church of Christ in (University) San Marcos & Chattanooga, TN. 1980-2000. Also, a deacon’s wife.

Music Ministry: Southside Baptist (choir) (2009-2012?) (deacon’s wife); Calvary Baptist (2012?- now) (choir, Kidspraise, Celebrate Recovery Celebration Place Ministry); Media team during VBS as photographer

FINE ARTS:
Music Lessons: I took piano and/or organ from 1st grade through the University years. I was also in or taught choir at school or church for most of my life.
VISUAL ARTS: Photography, creating teaching graphics, sketching, making props, costumes, sets… decorating…
The fine arts were my therapy when dealing with negative experiences in my life.

Teaching: I have taught in public school or at church since I was in Jr. High. (Instead of hiring a substitute, I often taught choir starting in Jr. High.) I have found that I prefer working with children instead of my peers as a teacher. My passion is teaching and bringing love, joy, self confidence, knowledge, and fun experiences to children. Seeing my students grow in knowledge, confidence, skill, joy, … watching them grow up over the years.

Loving my family: raising my sons, being with my family(especially my father), my grandchildren.

Sexual Harassment: My older brother sexually harassed me for years and, I found out decades later, also one of my siblings. My 3rd son was sexually abused as a 2-3 year old at church by the preacher’s adopted daughter.

Abusive husband: I was married for 27 years to a man that was emotionally/verbally abusive to me, and when he was mad at me it only took him a few moments to find a reason to hit my sons.

Divorce: My husband started disappearing on weekends, not coming home from work and not telling me where he was or that he would not be coming home. One weekend when I had a school choir field trip, he did not come on the field trip as usual. When I called home to let him know that we were running late, I heard a high pitched voice answer the phone, then the phone rattling from changing hands, then his voice. I experienced this after months of him disappearing and years of him abusing our family.
My oldest son had announced his engagement, so I waited to take the steps for divorce. The divorce process took years.
