S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Natalie Welshans for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Serving (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I grew up watching my mom serve others and as I have gotten old, I have been able to see how her service has helped so many. It was a part of shaping me and as I grow and serve it fills my heart knowing God can work through me.

#2 Gift, Giving (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have learned that it is way more important to know that some has gained from my giving whether it is just listening, time, money, good. What I have can mean more to others than it means to me if I give it with God’s love behind it.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I know what it feels like to be scare, driven by fear, and put down. God wants more than that for us and we can do God’s work in out broken state with just the slightest bit of love and encouragement.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. My job. I am a physical therapist assistant working in home care. I get to go to peoples homes, listen to their fears and concerns, encourage them to find safe ways to be independent and functional gain the most out of life that they can. God led me to my work early in life and I know this was part of his plan for me. I get to love on and encourage people who then get to share their life and many times their faith with me. It can drain me and fill my heart all at the same time.

2. Experiencing new things with my kids. New place, activities, adventures. I want them to experience so many things in life full of joy and to teach them not to fear new things. I want them to grow up feeling less fearful and less restricted then I did in a more faith driven family knowing they have God behind them all the way.

3. Most recently is spending time in the church, giving my time to different programs or participating in programs and learning more helps me know I will be more successful with my goals of being more supportive and more present with my family and loving on my kids. Going to church functions and being around my church family never feels like a chore and it is something I look forward to and am hoping to make friends that will last my lifetime and help support my kids and family in areas I am weak. “it takes a village”. I want to be surrounded by the right “village” and be more loving and accepting of others, less judgemental, and bring others into the love I have found.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I have always been drawn to older population but have been investing more time lately with kids as I want to learn to support, teach, and understand my own better and be someone the more “difficult” kids feel they can go to and be accepted by. I also have spent time with a number of individuals other may see as “disabled” or “different”. Hard to explain this connections but it’s part of why I love my therapy job. I like the idea of independence, ability to choice and problem solve for one’s self. A lot of times this type of confidence came be truly found without God in there somewhere. I don’t know.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I like problem solving. Figuring out why something did or didn’t work. How to make it more successful the next time. Was it communication, organization, training, planning, etc. This could be any variety of this from office to work of making sure things are always accessible and organized in a way that makes sense, cleaning and organizing closets or supplies so that it doesn’t take away from the completion of tasks or events, setting events up or breaking down…really any number of things.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Grew up going to church off and on as a kid. No real strong family influence. Held onto my relationship with God or what I thought that relationship was to get me through being a teen and early college but the relationship was stale, not actively growing or persuing. Not until recently before move to MT and coming to MAC that this really started to change. Very unhappy with work and life in general before the move and someone asked me to come back to church. After then God got ahold of my heart again and I feel I can actually call myself a Christian now where as before I thought I knew what that meant but now I know.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Never held a position of any kind. Now help with kids ministry AWANAs. And now some sign language interpreting but that’s it.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

ONE Study-Will never forget what that did for me.

AWANAS

Currently- Parently Group “Love and Respect in the Family”
See the trend here?

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Being Molested as a child by my dad.

Drowning myself in work (past job) and not knowing when to give up and that not having the skills to do that work doesn’t define me as a failure.

Thinking I was fully giving myself to a relationship to help them/us but then coming to realize I was being used and enabling the behaviors that were mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially draining.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Become and fairly decent American Sign Language interpreter so that we could have more attendance of the Deaf Community at church. Fellowship is important. Closed captions on Youtube help but they aren’t the same.

4. Be involved in helping develop more community programming for Parkinson’s or other disease processes, transportation to programming, etc.

5. Open my home more to people either to provide a place for Bible study, feed families in need so they don’t have to buy/plan/clean up, safe place/place of fellowship and growth, further influence and support for my family.
