S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Randon Pugh for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’ve always tried to learn from others’ mistakes and successes, and I think helping other Christians get to do this is important. I have always enjoyed preaching and leading, I believe in our day and age we need strong leaders perhaps more than ever. People who will stand firm in their beliefs and help others see Christ in our difficult days.

#2 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I think the body of Christ best succeeds when everyone participates and utilizes their spiritual gifts to the best of their ability. I recognize the fact that alone I can only do so much, but when we make disciples who make disciples the body can not only grow, but thrive. I often view this category as overlapping with the two others here, and possibly the most important.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
My answer here is somewhat similar to the previous one, the body of Christ is not meant to be stagnant. We are to do as Christ did and see it grow; I know my God has grace enough for everyone. When I see troubles in our world I believe that while there are things we can do to fix them, systemically, socially, personally, whatever it be, the gospel is the only thing that can enact real worthwhile change forever.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Fellowshipping with others, I often have the most fun when I do things other people like to do with them. I wrestle with being introverted but needing social contact, so I often need to push myself to get out of my comfort zone. But when I have in the past it has usually ended in some great moments.

2. I enjoy studying the Bible and sharing what I’ve found. My time at Biola helped me discover this as I began to grow to enjoy researching and comparing what I’d found and learned with others. This has also helped me break my familiarity with the Bible and see it new many times over, helping me come back to passages I thought I new and seeing them in finer detail.

3. I like going on long walks/drives with good music and another person.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I really enjoy working with those who are my peers or younger, typically people who are already Christians or interested in the faith. I do enjoy working with people who are mature Christians however, and being able to tackle mature issues.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was raised in a Christian household and always saw God as another friend or family member, never very far away. In my early teenage years I met a few people through my church and my highschool FCA that mentored me and gave me a good example of how a Christian man should act. He helped me see that a Christian can be gentle and yet not weak, and he pushed me to lead and use the knowledge of the Bible I’d be accruing over the years. At Biola I was certainly stretched more than I expected, and I was confronted more times than I wanted to be with feelings of loneliness and fears of being a failure. Through these and many more trials God helped refine me, and the Spirit is still working in me and convicting me every day.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

High School staff volunteer/Small group leader

Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle leader for three years in High school

General volunteer work with my church from middle school onward, often helped break down the stage or help setup.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My time at Redemption Hill church was overall a big positive experience, I found a decent sized church that I enjoyed. I was welcomed into the community and it felt like they wanted to get to know me as well, I was helpfully guided into how to volunteer. And once I began volunteering I had an amazing time and saw just some ways that God could use my gifts.

My relationship with my roommate Alec was a big influence on me in recent history, he and I not only got along but we helped each other see and adjust our strengths and weaknesses. He has been and probably still is my closest friend.

I went on a school study-trip to Europe for about two weeks that was focused around the Protestant Reformation. It was awesome for someone like me who enjoys seeing historical things, but also made me realize how little of church history I learned growing up.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Summer of 2019 I stayed on Biola’s campus to take one of the hardest classes available to save my planned graduation time. That summer was filled with some of the loneliest days and nights I have ever felt, coupled with the overall stress of the class I had several breakdowns. It made me a stronger man, but it is still probably one of the worst times in my recent memory.

I have struggled with lust for some time, possibly as a result of my loneliness, or a cause of it. It has given me however a new insight to the lives and minds of those who struggle with addiction.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would like to see American churches radically changed in a few ways, a renewed sense of justice and need for racial reconciliation. As well as perhaps even a recognition of the value of art in church/the church body.

4. I would like to travel. I love living in California, but I have always enjoyed seeing new places.

5. I would like to give back to everyone who’s ever helped me. It feels impossible to not at least mention financials in this list, I would like to see that my family and those around me are not financially burdened.
