S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Shari Bradley for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Serving (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Based on previous experiences, I have truly enjoyed working in the kitchen to prepare platters/meals for those in the church and packages for those in need. I have also greatly enjoyed playing piano and singing hymns for the elderly in retirement homes/memory care for several years in Singing Seniors.

#2 Gift, Teaching (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love to share my experience, of course, and what I have learned from the Bible. Teaching others also stretches me, my knowledge and understanding.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Although quite challenging for me, I am grateful when I am able to help others to understand what Jesus did for them even while they were sinners, to understand our need for salvation, a changed heart, and eternity with Him.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. My greatest joy was sharing the gospel in song to lift up the lonely and discouraged by singing and playing the old hymns they love and remember, while also showing appreciation to the staff who so selflessly serve them.

2. Wherever I am, whatever I am doing, it brings me joy to encourage sisters and brothers in Christ as well as those who don’t yet know Him to feel loved and appreciated.

3. Before the pandemic, I was also signed up to work in the church kitchen in Vista to prepare platters, etc,. for memorial services. A great blessing! During the lockdown, using Zoom to stay connected to our Singing Seniors family as well as my life group has been a great blessing as well. Really needed the connection.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

At the age of 69 with physical limitations, I am no longer able to work with the youngsters; however, I adore working with those my age and older.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Over the years, there have been issues here and there that I found frustrating; however, life is short. Everyone has their way of doing things. I want to be where I can be the most help. Singing Seniors is an absolute blessing – to all of us who share and to all those who receive what we bring. Cannot wait until we are again able to go to our local facilities and bring the joy of the Lord!

[A]bilities

My current vocation:

Currently, I am retired. Have worked as a receptionist, secretary, and medical transcriptionist in the past. Offered my typing skills to the church prayer team, but I think I was too wordy, so my skills there were not a good fit.

Other jobs I have experience in:

I have pumped gas, performed at the San Diego Opera, was in a show troupe across the south, and a bit of teaching piano/voice coaching.

Special talents/skills that I have:

I’m a good typist, a fair-to-middlin’ pianist and singer, and I love to cook.

I have taught a class or seminar on:

n/a

I feel my most valuable personal asset is:

My most valuable asset would have to be my desire to encourage others. I have these other talents that become less and less useful as I age; however, I can still share an encouraging word, pray for those in need, and share prayer requests within my sphere of influence. Loving God, Loving Each Other…

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Raised in an assimilated-Jewish family, parents divorced when I was 13. Lived a worldly life until the age of 35. God divorced. Worked in an office with a believer who led me to Jesus.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

St. Andrews Pres in the choir for a few years in the 1990’s, as well as Carlsbad Community Church.

Was involved in music ministry at the Nazarene Church in Vista, now Hope Church, for about 15 years (off and on). Had a lot of spiritual growing to do, but was thrilled to direct the seasonal programs there – wonderful experiences.

Being in Singing Seniors at NCC since about 2015 has been such a blessing! Love the people on the teams and those with whom we share God’s love. Also loved preparing refreshments for memorial services at NCC. Such a good fit.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My high school voice teacher was a Christian. Brought to his choir beautiful sacred music, which I believe greatly influenced me, as did the prayers of he and his wife. I also had the blessing of singing at his church before I became a believer, seeds were being planted.

Being encouraged by the church family in my gifts has had a great impact on me. The most obvious of my gifts early on was my singing ability, saved me during some very tough years as a young person. To be able to be used in this way as a Christian was extremely important to me.

Associating with church families after I came to Christ, learning about the Bible, learning about prayer, all of these were tremendously helpful to me as I have walked with Jesus. Only He is perfect, and learning to love others with all our faults has been incredibly helpful.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

The heartbreak of my parents’ divorce, the painful consequences of the worldly values of the 1960’s-70’s, and the failure of my first marriage helped me to see how much I needed a Savior. All helped me to be more kind, more patient with my precious husband of now 33 years, and I am so grateful.

Learning through these past 35 years as a Christian how to love has been challenging. I brought my own thought processes, based on my pre-Christ life experiences, to my new faith; of course, the polishing stone against stone can be tough. Yet I am so grateful to all those who were patient with me and helped me along the way.

As a new Christian, a divorcee, finding housing and affording food for myself and my two sons was a great challenge. Having family and church friends help us impacted me greatly. After I remarried and our daughter came along, our lives became much more stable; however, I remember what it was like and have a desire to help those in similar circumstances.
