This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Over the years this has been affirmed to me by other Pastors/leaders/congregants etc. As well, I get a ton of energy and joy out of teaching/preaching/leading.

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I do not believe this to be a “Spiritual Gift” of mine. As a result of understanding God’s word/obedience as well the incredible burden of living out a “missional life” with our biblical God of mission. It’s an incredible burden and joy to do the work of evangelism and I never… never feel like I have arrived or done enough. It’s a boxing match for sure.

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have always enjoyed being with people regardless where they are in their walk. I love to create a sense of BELONGING so people can have appreciation and affinity for one another. Within this context, I am always looking for ways for the community to encounter Christ to bring about the right BELIEFS so they can BECOME like Christ….. I also know this is one of my gifts because of the overwhelming pains I have when the community is broken or hurts each other.

[H]eart

1. I love adventuring with the people I love. This could be my family, friends or church. I love the mystery of doing something completely new that we have never experienced. Regardless of the difficulty and challenge and the journey is never forgotten and It’s amazing to see the bonds that are developed as a result of shared experiences.

2. I love a good project. I enjoy the process but I love seeing the pieces come together. The labor, the efforts, the gifts all coming together to make/create/etc is so fulfilling to me. I enjoy at the end of the project seeing it completed or implemented.

3. I enjoy reading, studying and learning. I love to store up information/experiences for the sake of implementation. Sounds odds… but I know the more I learn the more God will bless it and use it for teaching, preaching, leading, parenlting, etc.

The older I get the more I enjoy working/partnering with adults. Since 1998 I have been working in youth ministries and still to this day love that age group. Yet, I have been blessed to have opportunities to work beyond the teen years and I do feel an increasing pull to work with a broader adult spectrum.

One issue is The Mission of God. Mission is a heartbeat throughout scripture. It’s in my DNA, preaching, teaching, and our experiences… it can all be traced back to the Mission of God. I am concern most see Mission as something that is honslety… optional. That is why I am so passionate to help people rethink missions to mission.

[E]xperience

Ever since I can remember my family always had a strong acknowledgment of God. Our family did our best to attend church and participate in the body life of the ministry. As a young boy, I felt comforted by the thought of God. In my teen years, I became very unsettled and I did not a peace with God. Outwardly no one would ever question my relationship with God and did my best to blend in.

At a teen summer camp, I felt compelled to deepen my relationship with Christ. After a series of messages on repentance and faith, I determined to search the scriptures to see if my salvation experience was real.

To my surprise and obvious need of salvation, I repented and gave my life to Christ. As I wept over the lie I was living, I placed my hope and trust in Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Since that day, I have had great assurance of my salvation as well personally believe God has sustained me by his Word and Holy Spirit in my life. In short, salvation became personal in the person of Jesus… not just a generic acknowledgment of God.

At the Chapel in Akron and Green, we were truly given the ability to run the ministry at both campuses. The internship was highly integrated and only hired people who completed a BA. Therefore, under the direction of the Youth Directors, we were allowed to carry out the Mission and Objectives of the youth ministry how we best felt led. It was a tremendous growth period in my career and truly taught me a high work ethic in order to achieve success.

There is so much I could say about my time at NC Chapel. I believe one of the biggest impacts during that time was teamwork. It was a smaller staff at NCC and we had to work well together to accomplish our goals. We were very giving and supportive and often would volunteer in each others ministry.

This role has helped me be more direct to help students take the next step. It has to give me the ability to see their potential and strategically help them make it a reality as they serve the kingdom and develop their gifts.

During this time each intern had duty days to assist local walk-ins from the Akron community. Many of them where homeless, in poverty, had addictions, etc. This experience helped me see people with compassion and human dignity in a whole new level.

Unfortunately, this church went through a very difficult Sr. Pastor transition many of the original staff left as a result. (Me being one) This experience really helps me understand staff dynamics and health in a whole new way. It is very vital that we know, trust, support, develop, encourage each other on staff. Without it… we are leaving our selves open to some tremendous attacks. Not to mention all the intention of accomplishing the church’s mission is rendered inert.

The negative of this role is two-fold. One I had to learn to let go. Even if we see potential in someone it doesn’t mean they will achieve it. Sometimes students will even drop out of college altogether. Secondly, I have had to learn how to (with grace) challenge their assumptions and “call” in their lives. That is not the most enjoyable experience at that moment yet, in the long run, they/we/the church are better off for it and in the end… and the hope is that God would be glorified all the more.
