I believe all I have has been given to me by God and belongs ultimately to God. For that reason, giving has never been difficult for me.

I have a heart for teaching. Not only do I love teaching but others believe me to be a good teacher as well. Both of adults and children. My heart lies in teaching children and my patient spirit helps me be successful.

Teaching young children – all children. I have a heart for fearful, shy children, building trust and relationship with them. I very much enjoy working with the elderly. As a very young adult I worked with the elderly in a facility and I particularly enjoyed the “difficult” cases (angry clients). I loved getting to the “heart” of their anger and building a relationship and trust with them. They were the most rewarding clients.

Working to heal the hurts others have suffered at the hands of the big word “church.” Showing that Christians are love and believe in love through action. Advocating for the under served including both children and adults. Outreach ministries. Teaching young children.

I was raised, baptized, and confirmed in the church. I was baptized at confirmation so made the decision myself. Over my life there have been many moments that have solidified my belief. In times of intense trial God has shown his face to me and my faith deepened. I have heard the voice of God when I was very sick and have felt the protection of Jesus when in a very trying and dangerous situation. I also see and feel the presence of the Trinity in worship experiences.

My parents’ have played the largest part in what I believe has made me successful. I had a good safe, loving childhood which I believe equipped me for my adult life.

As an adult I worked with a young youth minister who taught me that children (and adults) remember feelings not words. It is the feelings we share and create with children and members of our church that lead them back or away from the church. It is not the amount of scripture we teach them to memorize but the feeling that in this place (church) they are safe, accepted, and loved. I had practiced and believed that philosophy but had never heard it put into words so eloquently. I researched it and found it to be evidence-based and continue to model that philosophy today.

As an adult volunteer at a youth retreat I witnessed the Holy Spirit. God showed me his presence surrounding each and every attendee. It was amazing and an image I hold when I have doubts or difficulties.

I had major back surgery at age 14 which taught me to persevere through difficult circumstances and pain. The lifelong result of that surgery including sometimes debilitating back/neck pain and limitations has taught me to not give in to perceived limitations but to continue to try difficult things and to always get back up again. It has taught me to always look for alternatives to perceived dead-end situations.

A tragedy in my immediate family that resulted in my family taking custody of my niece and nephews along with all the dysfunctions of their family has allowed me to see all humans as broken, no one human more broken than another. It showed me my own brokenness and God’s love and protection in spite of that brokenness. It has also allowed me to use that brokenness to uplift and support others.

Seeing loved ones struggle with addiction and even incarceration has given me compassion for others in similar situations. Walking with addicts has shown me the very grey areas of our world (versus black and white).
