#1 Gift, Evangelism (100%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I absolutely love to meet new people and talk to them about Jesus. If I have someway to break the ice and start a conversation, I can always bring it around to talking about Jesus and salvation through Him. I have complete confidence talking about Him to anyone. It’s a confidence that I don’t have talking about most other things, even things I’m passionate about such as video games or books. When I come in contact with someone, I crave the chance to show them the key to everything in their life through salvation. No matter who they are or what they have done. No matter what face they put on or how bad their day is. I just love getting to add hope to their lives, even if they reject it today. I always have hope that I have been a tool and a step in their road to salvation in Jesus.

#2 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (100%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have always been able to talk to people about whatever is troubling them. Friends, family, and often times strangers always seem to come to me for advice. Helping people feel better and more hopeful about their situation has always come easy to me. Bible verses about encouragement and hope are the primary ones that I remember when talking to someone about something deep or painful they are experiencing. Helping people to deal with life and grow closer to God with every troubling circumstance they go through, fills me with great peace and joy. I’ve often thought that I give far better and more faithful advice then I often actually manage to implement in my own life. Hopefully I can just blame youth and the lack of wisdom that comes with that.

#3 Gift, Mercy Showing (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Mercy has always come very easy to me. Seeing as how the wage of all sin is death, what right do I have to hate someone who just happens to have a different preferred flavor of sin then I do. I’m only saved because of what Jesus did and my acceptance and devotion to that. No matter what evils someone commits, I could never wish eternal damnation and separation from God upon them. Those who appear most distant from God on earth are often to closest to salvation in my opinion. They are just waiting for someone to act contrary to what they expect. Truly showing mercy to someone who doesn’t deserve it even by worldly standards is what shows the true power of the gospel. It’s what sets it apart from any other philosophy or religion. It shows a truth that can only be God’s truth, because it is so different from anything of man’s creation or motivation.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love to have meaningful interactions with people that others just look past. I like to make sure a take a second to be nice to a cashier or someone at the DMV. I try to make their day just a little brighter, even if I only have an opportunity to smile.

2. I love to spend time outside. I love to watch and study God’s creation. I have a lot of fun meeting people out on hikes or walks. I hope to extend this to sailing around with my family and meeting people and seeing God’s creation in a way people don’t often get to.

3. I love spending time with my wife and daughter. I love to go walking around with them. I love explaining things that fascinate or scare my daughter such as bugs or large trucks. I also enjoy spending time with my wife playing online video games or watching various nerdy shows on tv.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I love to work with people different then me. I feel most comfortable with people who have interests or a culture that I don’t understand. I naturally do well at being mindful and not offending people, so it gives me a chance and a position to ask and learn about whatever it is that I don’t understand and likewise share about myself.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I have always had a huge desire to be a missionary all over the world. The idea of getting to talk about Jesus while adventuring in new places with my family is the most exciting thing I can think of on this side of Heaven. I’ve never felt tied to a place, way of living, or wealth based lifestyle. Anything that’s different is exciting. The world is full of places that have so many people that are thirsting to learn about God.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I always grew up around and in the Church. It wasn’t until I was in 7th or 8th grade while sitting in my dad’s truck that I realized I had never actually asked Jesus to save me and enter my life. Right then and there I repented and turned to Christ devoting everything to Him.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I helped out with lighting and music prompts for the main service and youth programs at Hilton Head Community Church for three years while I was in High School.

I helped with set up / tear down and parking while in Arizona at Gateway Church of Scottsdale.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

On three different occasions in 6th, 7th, and 9th grade I had to opportunity to move to a new area and in turn start a new school. As the new kid I was always immediately accepted into the groups with the “cool kids”. Within a short period of time the Lord always presented me with an opportunity to stick up for a kid that was different in some way and in turn was getting picked on. I never hesitated to stick up for those kids and in turn always made fast friends with them. It was always my goal to be able to be friends with everyone, but the Lord gave me wonderful chances to learn the lesson that doing the right thing and sticking up for people was the key to being happy.

When I was in 6th grade my family moved to New Orleans about six months after Katrina hit. My dad was in home building and helping to open a new division for KB homes at the time to help with the rebuilding. We got involved in a church there and got to do some neighborhood clean up. We would just go down the streets of poorer neighborhoods and pick up the trash that we could find. These people were struggling to try to repair their homes and make ends meet. The few people that came out of their homes and thanked us really changed me. It was nice to just help out people who weren’t expecting any help.

When me and my wife got married she wasn’t saved. She was raised catholic and had a lot of theological knowledge, but she was struggling to grow in her faith because she wasn’t actually saved. I had suspicions of this but didn’t want to pressure her as she was already struggling with it. Finally I had the opportunity to bring it up when she was just having a bad day. She asked me why she felt so distant from God and was struggling so much and I asked her in turn if she had ever actually prayed, repented, and asked God to save her. She realized she knew all about this but had never actually taken the most crucial step of it all. We prayed together right then and their in the kitchen. This was the only time that someone has accepted Christ right in front of me. It was an experience second only to my own moment of salvation.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

When I was in high school I broke up with a girl after dating her for a short while. I was always looking for the girl to marry and knew that we just weren’t meant for each other. She was in a very volatile place in her life and made reference and threats about being sad enough to take her life. This what something she had been dealing with for her whole teenage life and I knew there was nothing I could do to fix it. Later in time we became friendly in passing. I found out that she had taken a new approach to life and had become a very positive person who had turned her hurt into a way to help people all over the world. She travelled helping out in various parts of Thailand and Asia. I realized a few things from this. I had a savior complex and was naturally drawn to girls who were hurting and in a bad place in life in high school. These girls didn’t need me to be another boyfriend and add to the hurt. They needed me to show them the way through all this by pointing towards Jesus. This was the turning point to both, not being so fixated on finding a girl to fix and also not hesitating as much to talk about Jesus.

I have been picked on all throughout life for being into nerdy things or hanging out with the “weird people”. Even when I grew confident enough that these things stopped, I still assumed most people thought these things behind my back. Eventually this made me super nervous to reach out to anyone at all. Through college at two different schools over three years, I only made one new friend. This was very contrary to my normally social personality so it drove me to become introverted and not sure of myself. With time I turned this around by focusing on reading the Word of God and praying more. This time of being a hermit really helped me to be rebuilt in a way that was focused on God first. After leaving college and shortly after getting married, I haven’t struggled with these things the same way again. Now I love any opportunity to talk to people and make new friends.

About two years ago I injured my lower back while working. It has been something that has bothered me since then and has often affected my mood or willingness to do activities. With time it has helped me to learn to not complain. Every day that I complained it was harder to deal with the pain. At this point I’m so thankful for it because it has a allowed me a glimpse into what it’s like for people to have to approach life from the perspective a disability or pain based issue. I know my issue is nothing compared to others and worse then what people often complain about. Regardless of where it falls on the spectrum compared to others, it doesn’t matter. I try to always speak positive of it and give it up to God for healing. I do my part in this by trying my best to be healthy and take care of it. But ultimately if this is a thorn to help me spread God’s kingdom, then I am thankful for it.
