[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I enjoy playing soccer with a good group of people in order to exercise and enjoy some sportsmanship.

2. I find spending time working in my yard (only in the winter time – Tucson summers are brutal) brings me joy. I enjoy planning and designing the landscape, building structures (or hiring contractors to do so), and choosing the right things for it.

3. I like stretching my legs in nature and hiking up in Madera with the family. We turn it into nature lessons and learn things together.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Teenagers, young adults, middle aged adults.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Leadership changes, kids’ ministry (because my kids attend it), and Next Step (because I filled out a giant questionnaire and this survey)

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I watched a church play at 17 years old that made me realize that hell was real and I didn’t want to go there.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I was an Usher at The Journey, First Evangelical Free, on River and Swan in Tucson, AZ. I served for a year before we came to Grace.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

I was baptized at 43 in the Jordan River on my last deployment. I realized that the reason I didn’t get baptized was due to my own hard headed and foolishness for being too old to change. I watched a senior officer give the church his testimony for baptismal when he was far older than I was and it was nearly the same. I had the realization that my heart was hardened and watching this officer give over his pride for God made me feel that I could do it too.

The birth of my first child greatly impacted me to understand that God could bless me with such a gift. We named her Gwyneth Abigail, which means “blessed father’s love.”

Getting married had such a profound meaning in my life. Alyssa is my peace when I’m upset. She my home, when I’m away. She’s the person I run to when I’m uncertain and need reassurance. I’m very thankful that God gave me her as a gift, and I tell her often. She’s been such a major influence in my life because of her background, her upbringing, her strong character – that she makes me want to be a better man so I can live up to the vision she has for me.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I deployed to Baghdad in 2004, to Kandahar in 2009, and to Jordan in 2018. Every deployment comes with its challenges. In Baghdad, I honestly didn’t know if I was going to come home and as a newlywed, I spent the first year and half away from my bride. In Kandahar, I worked directly with the Afghan army regularly and had fears that they would turn on me. In Jordan, I dealt with a toxic leader that created a harsh work environment. These challenges allow me to relate to veterans extremely easily.

My father was an alcoholic. He drank himself into a coma when I was a junior in college and it created a rift between us for many years. I’m really sensitive to my own alcoholic consumption because of this and it helps me talk with people to understand the effects with kids and young adults.

I grew up in a military home where we started off with low income. My mother and father did things that allowed us to not realize that we were lower income though, so it helps me relate to that and changed my work ethic to push for financial freedom.
