S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Stan Gaus for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Giving (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am happy to tithe to the church and give to support spreading the gospel. I am willing to give my time in service to others.

#2 Gift, Mercy Showing (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I don’t know if I really have this gift. I have compassion for those that are in circumstances beyond their control and those that want to help themselves. It is harder when people don’t care about themselves or want your help.

#3 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have previously been an elder in the Christian Church. I never felt like a great leader but I put a lot into it and loved the flock.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. See someone that is hurting respond to people and Christ’s love for them.

2. Helping people.

3. Appreciate nature. I don’t take much time to do this but is enjoyable. I know Guist creek isn’t a natural lake but the beauty around it why I chose to locate where I am now.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

People in 40 to 90 age range are easiest for me to relate to. I like to be around people that like to work and accomplish things. I like working with my hands and identify best with people that can at least appreciate that if they aren’t mechsnical themselves. All of the small groups that I have led have been mixed.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I will have to spend some time at the church to determine this. I was disappointed that Shelby didn’t reach the ministry goal for giving on Christmas Eve. I thought that would certainly be met but I really don’t know the make up of the church.

[A]bilities

My current vocation:

VP of Quality at Vogt Power International

Other jobs I have experience in:

Project Management, Engineering, Church elder.

Special talents/skills that I have:

I think I have administrative skills but this test doesn’t say that. I can fix things. I do my own work on anything that I can rather than pay someone else. That may just be the result of a hard head though.

I have taught a class or seminar on:

I have led a few small groups.

I feel my most valuable personal asset is:

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Attended church with my grade school friend. My family did not attend. People shared with me and preacher challenged me.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Fairdale Christian Church. Elder for quite a few years. Stepped down prior to divorce. Small group leader.

Deacon for many years. Superintendent of Sunday School.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My Sunday School teacher from high school spent a lot of time with us boys outside of Church. I helped him a few times work at his house and he helped me with my car. Biggest impact on me.

My dad and I used to work together all of the time when I was growing up. That taught me a good work ethic. Helped me in my career and how to make do with what you have.

Having several Christian friends over the years that have kept me in line.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Divorce. Not something that I actually believe in but had to go though it. I learned a lot but very painful.

My son was not expected to live very long after birth. That was a rough patch but ultimately God gave us a miracle and he is about to graduate law school.

My dad passed at age 59. He was diabetic but also an alcoholic.
Helped me realize that people can have problems that they don’t even realize.

Wrapping It Up

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To share our home and property to reach or encourage others.

4. To be more bold in sharing gospel.

5. Mentor younger Christians.
